Default No more 2010 green beetles?

Does anyone know whether it is true that VW will not be offering gecko green as a color choice for this model year?

I have contacted five dealerships in the Kansas City area. None of them has green 2010 coupes in stock, and they all said that the color cannot be ordered anymore.

It would be a real shame if this is the case. The car looks really good in gecko green.

Well, that doesn't look to be true...I think. I just pulled up the "build a Beetle" on vw.com and gecko green metallic is still available. Unless the website or the dealerships are lying. Not sure who! But according to the website, you should still be able to order one.

It's very late in the model year. I would assume all 2010 NBs that are going to be built, have already been built. Sounds like Gecko Green was available in 2010. But if none are left on dealer lots, I can't imagine VW would open up the factory and start building them again for ya.

Did you have a dealership do a search? That's probably your only hope at this point.

Oh, is that really so... Could someone confirm that...

I have to admit, that I don´t know anything about VW´s production schedules. I just want to know, if NB-production lines are closed now (for good, until the next gen comes).

I would think if it's not, it's gotta be close. Remembering back, I "think" the LE NBs that started in 2000, were just about the last batch that hit dealerships for the 2000 model year. They landed at the showrooms around the beginning of May. So I'm sure they were built a month or two prior to that. So this is right around the time production would be halting for the current model year.

And while this is a bit of a debate, from what I've heard from the majority of dealerships, VW doesn't really offer a custom order. Maybe that's changed. But normally, VW schedules their builds way in advance. So if the Geckos were at the beginning of the build for 2010, and they built all those, they're not gonna go ahead and throw one more in cause someone wanted one this late into the model year.

Basically, think of cars as the year prior. 2009s are 2010s, if you want a custom 2010, it has to be ordered in 2009...and you can buy 2010s in 2009.

Thanks for your answers guys!

Still I find it quite odd, that consumer can´t order a new 2010car now, in the beginning of March.

It has to depend on a current situation; because NB is a fading model. They want to transfer NB-lines for something else...

I suppose, that if I want to order -for example- a new Corolla or Octavia, with the options I like, they started to make it just after my order arrives. That has to be normal procedure?!

It really has nothing to do with the NB being an outgoing model. All manufacturers have specific dates for when they start and end the builds of model year. And March is pretty late into that year. It takes some time to switch over to the next model year, and with the next year vehicles hitting dealerships normally around July - August, that doesn't leave much time.

Sure, you can still order a vehicle in March with manufacturers that allow a custom order, but there's probably a good chance with most, that the vehicle you order will have to be for the next model year. So if you were to go out and custom order a Corolla right now, the vehicle you'd get would probably be a 2011.

It's ironic that the NB as we know it is on its way out. As of March 1, New Beetle sales in the US are UP 89% over this same time in 2009! Announcement of its discontinuation may have had real enthusiasts flock to dealers to get the last models, I suppose. Or sales could drastically tank later on this year....But wouldn't it be something if VW ended up at an 80-90% increase in NB sales for the whole of 2010? Perhaps they would change their minds about dropping the model! Remember when Ford tried to kill the Taurus?

I have received the following response from VW US. So I guess no more new 2010 green beetles.

"Thank you for visiting the Volkswagen website. We appreciate your interest in the New Beetle!

Gecko Green has been discontinued for the New Beetle and the New Beetle Convertible. The color is no longer available for ordering. We apologize for any disappointment this may cause.

Thank you again for stopping by!"

If you want one...hop on a plane and get one.
Just because it won't be delivered right to your dealership is no reason you can't get one.

Try searching dealer stock on websites, or by checking autotrader.com.

You may still be able to find an unsold 2009 Gecko Green on a lot somewhere, too. I concur ...autotrader.com is a good place to search.

I'm not too surprised. Last time I searched my area I was astonished at how many '09 gecko greens were available (and there were even more heaven blues!)

Still Available

i really like my gecko green, it's the perfect colour for me. im sad to think they wont be selling that colour anymore, maybe theyll bring it back at a later date?

the heaven blues would be nice if there was more blue in it, i like a metali blue colour, but this one looks more grey then anything.

The Heaven Blue is so pretty. It is the exact color I had hoped for. Just as much blue as the Aquarius. You never get tired of the color.

Depending on where you are...there was a Gecko Green coupe at the dealership in Ft. Collins, Colo., and 2 Heaven Blues in the cadillac and coupe models.
Check with your dealership and see if they can bring you one in from another dealerships. We get dealerships sthat do that here...

A good dealer will find a gecko green for you. They DO exist. My mom wanted a white Lancer so our dealer got a one from Denver since they didn't have a white one.

Not gonna happen, since this is the last year for the New Beetle. There may be a next generation, but VW isn't saying for sure.

If there is a next gen, I'd hope they'd start off with a completely new color palatte, rather than re-use the same colors that have been out for years.
