I was at the Detroit auto show yesterday and asked if they had anything new about the New B2, nothing, said that VWoA has their lips sealed. They did release a neat looking electric golf concept though. Though they did hint at the new york auto show so keep an eye out there maybe

I thought that the Oprah show "unveiling" said it wouldn't be until May that the car was fully seen by the public anyway?

FYI, the New York International Auto Show runs April 22 thru May 1. Media preview days are April 20 and 21.

Wouldn't surprise me if VW stole the show by revealing the NB2 on May 1. I think Oprah may have given this away for us... I'm holding back on ticket purchases (and travel/hotel arrangements) until I can get some info on the event times for the various automakers. I've also never been to an auto show, so I'd really like to go regardless... but I'd really want to go if it was being debuted!!

The reveal would most likely be on one of the media preview days so that the crowds can drool over it for the entire show.

I usually go to the Chicago Show, but since it's next month, the 2012 NB won't be there yet. Bummer.

Per the article,

Volkswagen announced today it's bought two Super Bowl ad spots for its 2012 Beetle and Passat, and has partnered with Lucasfilm to promote the Passat.

The two 30-second spots will appear during the second and fourth quarters of Super Bowl XLV, according to VW.


"Accompanied by John Williams' iconic 'The Imperial March,' the [Passat] spot features the most infamous villain in the galaxy, a pint-sized Darth Vader who uses the Force when he discovers the all-new 2012 Passat in the driveway," according to Volkswagen.

The other ad for the 2012 Beetle will notably not show the car, according to VW.

"The [Beetle] ad is an homage to some of the greatest car chase scenes in the history of film and TV," VW said in a statement.

A silhouette with the tagline "It's a Beetle. But it's not" has been VW's campaign method during its spots on the NBA Finals and a promotional deal with the "Oprah Winfrey Show," as part of the buildup to when the car goes on sale in the fall.

It means....bottom line....it's not. Doesn't matter to me. I got mine.

after comparing them on that angle, the new one actually has closer lines to the old bug, which is good, and the back bumper is different than the 2010, however I still believe it's a discuise, we need to wait to see the real deal, I'm still unsure what i really think. I want to see the production versions front end, I think it will look better and make everything look alot cooler, hopefully it doesn't stick out as far as the dummy bumper they have on it, I figure if it follows the same contour as the hood it will look awesome.
Guess we'll have to wait and see!

I think that with their push to make the NB2 more masculine, it's their way of saying forget what you knew about the Beetle. This one is going to be different.

Still a Beetle, and still looks like a Beetle, but it's their way of trying to get people who wouldn't normally look at a Beetle, to take a look.
