Hmm...Super Bowl Sunday WOULD be a great time to debut the Beetle, but I thought nobody would see it until May. Maybe all we're going to see Feb 6 is this commercial with an insect in the woods with a slogan like: The 2012 Beetle Coming Soon.

I guess they are trying to recreate the hype of 1998 of everyone wanting one but I don't think it will happen this time around.

It has about as much hype as a 2012 Honda Accord.

I noticed it had stripes. makes me wonder what the ultimate package with all the options will be like. You can't have stripes without something to back it up with.....unless you're me

It's hard to say at this point. I think die-hard Beetle enthusiasts will embrace it, but as for John Q Public, there's some really tough competition out there now, unlike 1998. I'm a VW guy for life, but Hyundai/Kia is a company to watch out for.

After seeing the ad i may need to paint srtips down the middle of my 02 NB. It's black and i think silver strips would look great. Can't wait to see the real thing. I've been driving New Beeetles since 98, and i'm ready for something new.

I believe that commercial will inspire many to do the same, as well as a few of the nB2 owners.

It would also be cool if VW would make some of those beetles from the commercial- I'd buy a few

I'm not sweating over it. So many Doomsdays have come and gone in my lifetime that I can't count them. 2012 is just the flavor of the month. Alarmist hype.......
