Default Next version to be called simply "Beetle?"

I read the thread about "New Beetle 2" being trademarked, but the Super Bowl commercial just had the word "Beetle" in it. Since it's no longer "new," wouldn't it make sense to now just call it a Beetle? "New Beetle 2" seems really unwieldy.

Yes VW is calling the 2012 model 'Beetle'. I read it in a car magazine. Long time coming IMO. If I told someone I had a New Beetle, they'd think I had a new Beetle....

I figure air-cooled, 98-10s, or 12 +, they're all Beetles. If someone tells me they have a Beetle, I just ask, "Old-style or modern?" I suppose after this fall, I'll have to include, "Or the very latest Beetle?"

Default New Beetle?

How about New Beetle Too? or Newer New Beetle? Maybe Newer then your new beetle? Just kidding, the only name that makes sence is BEETLE. Also the the idea of which is better, air cooled ot h2o beetles. I love both. I've owned both. My 74 lasted 6 years with only 52,000 miles on it and i did all my own repairs. I've had both a 98 NB and am driving an 02 now,
i've put more then 250,00 miles on them and i also do my own repairs on them.

I automatically ask what year. When I tell people I have a Beetle they always think old style. Then, when I tell them that it is a 2003 they always ask "do those still have the engine in the back?" to which I reply "Nope and I'm happy for it because I can actually haul stuff in my Beetle....also, did I mention that it's a diesel and gets better mileage than your Prius?...." and so on and so forth teehee.

I always call my car a Beetle not NewBeetle because that seems to confuse any non-VW person out there.

VW is going back to a Beetle based on a VW Beetle, wow what a concept. They are abandoning the Californian design we have gotten used to recently. The 2012 Beetle definantly looks like a German inspired Beetle. I still can't shake the fact the New Beetle (1998-2010RIP) was designed by the same group who designed the flop redesigned Ford Thunderbird. How long did that last, I forgot? A neigbour down the road from me has a canary yellow Thunderbird Yuck!!! I love my 2002 1.8t but it has never been Beetle enough, more of a design idea than anything else serious. I will be first in line for the 2012 Beetle. I have a F#$%&* piece of crapola 2010 TDI Jetta now. Trunk full of water, creaky trunk lid, thin body panels OMG etc... Thank God its not a redesigned 2011 with rear drum brakes and a 2.0 motor making its triumphant return in a much heavier vehicle. Remember VW politely warned the public last month that they will be attempting to price match their vehicles with the Japanese equivalents. To do that they mentioned they will basically strip down the cars to a point where they are no longer a worthy purchase? What is VW thinking about. Usually the Top end Beetles will be better than the rest of the lineup hopefully that continues for the 2012 model and the GTD TDI motor @170Hp in it.
