I went on VW.com and it seems that the new rabbit is coming this summer. It kind of looks like the golf. Any one else know anything?

It is the Golf.... returning to it's original branding of "Rabbit".

manoverboard pointed you to the thread that was started a couple days ago about it.

Actually it was the Golf in the rest of the world from 1975 on and on and on... we are the only market to ever get "Rabbit" and that ended in 1985 when we finally got Golf. As I recall we had been begging them to change the name for years. Now... hehehe Rabbit is kind of cute.

My younger brother had a '78 Rabbit (a Pink Champagne color?) that I babysat while he was in Japan. I had to carry jumper cables with me at all times when driving it.

By the way, vortexers call their Rabbits "Bunnies", don't they?

My dad bought a Rabbit from a co-worker(Psst...not a good idea!!) and it hadn't been taken care of. It would quit at lights around town and after a few tries would start up again. My dad drove it to work(Denver - 50 miles away) and smoke would be coming out of the hood. We got a 94 Geo Metro after that, died 300,000 miles later!! Best $8000 investment my parents ever made! I think he should get a new Rabbit when VW changes the name, he thinks that's a real funny idea!!

I've seen a pic of the new rabbit and it's alright, but it's just a hatchback version of the new Jetta, or a 4 door GTI (though not as bold looking). I was rather disappointed when I saw it because I had already seen pix of the 'new' gold and was hoping the Rabbit would be different, but when I thought about it, how could it be? isn't the Golf the same thing as a rabbit Anyways, I'm glad to see the Rabbit come back, I've had some fond memories in my grandpa's red Rabbit, but was hoping for something...different, i suppose?

Well its a good move for VW because the Golf is the same thing, so all they gotta do is update the name for the US and Canada.

I think is looks very much like a european vehicle...there's no mistaking that. But i would still love to own a TDI version of one

yeah, the fact that it is assembled in Germany and then shipped over is a big plus.

did the rabbit at the show have a brown-looking interior like in the pics?

It was gray/black interrior. Ill post some pics soon. They had only one Rabbit on display and about 4 GTI's. 1 Beetle Convrt.
One of the VW guys said that standard Rabbit will cost $14k-$15k that will include 2 door body, manual,abs,A/c and ESP.

It's the same car. The Golf won't be sold in the U.S./Canadian markets... the Rabbit will simply be the Golf with different badges... just like it used to be. I'm not sure how you thought it would be different, or why you're disappointed... the original Rabbit was the U.S. version of the Golf, too.

The R32 had/has a 3.2 in it (albeit a VR6)... same size (heck... pretty much the same car) as the Rabbit. Talk about supah fast! It could outgun the WRX off the line... er... before it fell behind down the stretch.
