I am missing one of the rubber grommets that hold the plastic intake manifold cover on. These grommets are slide into the back of the cover and snap over bolts. I went to my VW Dealer and they told me I need to buy an entire new cover at some outrageous cost. Does anyone else know where I can source replacement grommets?
Thanks Brian |

Someone/anyone please feel free to correct me, as I could very well be wrong! :-)
As far as I know, for the US market, there are two different engine covers for the TDIs, one for the non-PD TDI which was in the 98-03 model years and one then the PD, which was 04-06 model years. You didn't mention what year yours is, but this is what I have found... Could it be item #14? You'll need someone with ETKA/VW parts catalog access to verify this for you. Its description is "grommet", but it looks like a nut, so I can't say with certainty. You may have to purchase item #12 to get the rubber grommet. Every time I needed help locating an oddball part, I've turned to Zeb over at 1stvwparts.com . You may want to try contacting them. Cover for intake manifold 1.9ltr.. Fits: Volkswagen (VW) 5-MT 1.9L TDI | Jim Ellis VW Parts As for the 04-06 PD engine cover, I haven't found a base part number to start with. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the update. No worries on forgetting to specify what car you have. :-)
I found a parts-breakdown on the engine cover you have (I think). The only grommet I'm seeing is for the back-most cover mount. So perhaps the dealer is right. I've never worked on a one with that engine cover, so I don't know what the backside of it looks like. I'm guessing it has the one rubber grommet in the back on the bolt, then two "feet" in the front? Cover for intake manifold 1.9ltr.. Fits: 2005 Volkswagen (VW) New Beetle 5-MT 1.9L TDI | Jim Ellis VW Parts I had to specify 2005 because for some reason, Jim Ellis' page didn't show a listing for 2006 TDIs, even though I know they exist, as I was looking at them new on the lot, or, shall I say drooling over them new on the lot. LOL. Either way, I'm pretty sure the cover was the same. Hopefully someone can chime in and confirm whether or not I'm right. On a side note, these covers are insanely expensive, in my opinion. The problem I have in particular with my 99 is the cover is different on those TDIs even though the engine is the same in the Golfs and Jettas. I didn't get a cover with mine. I'm sorry I haven't been able to help with this. I wonder if any of the other motors have a cover that may have a piece you could use. This may end up being a salvage yard find. |
