2000 1.8L turbo...feeler - sell or repair?

Hi folks,

I have a silver 2000 new beetle with 1.8L turbo engine, automatic transmission. Love my bug but it has transmission issues (valve body?) and I'm trying to decide whether to sell it or keep it and do the repairs. I'm not a mechanic and I don't have access to the tools & work space to do the work it needs or to part it out. It's in pretty good shape with exception of the transmission.

Located in ottawa, Ontario... Inspected, registered and still being driven as of today
154,000 kilometres (95k miles)
Sun roof
New brakes, rotors & emergency bake line, rear coil springs & bushings done in August
Timing belt, water pump, etc were done at about the 120k mark as part of regular maintenance

Any suggestions?
Anyone interested?

Depends on how they do the repairs...my guy figures that he can get a rebuilt or used tranny and install it for about $1500. The transmission shop was talking $2500 minimum to repair the car without replacing the transmission...I thin taking advantage of a female car owner.

Would be a good car to part out if not rested in repairing her.

Rear suspension bushings & coil springs

For the money swapping the Automatic for a manual transmission is what I would do.

Never done one, but off the top of my head ...

1) ... clutch pedal with clutch master cylinder
2) ... vacuum booster with clutch master cylinder connection
3) ... manual transmission
4) ... cable linkage, shifter cable mounting connections and shifter knob
5) ... wiring harness for manual transmission
6) ... ECU update for manual transmission (maybe)
7) ... center console (maybe)
