What do bent valves act/sound like?

Not wanting to take the head back off I need to know what bent valves sound like, what sounds will be made when it happens and how the engine will act if there are any. So far the only issue I'm having is it runs like crap at idle, but seems to run fairly well otherwise. Never having damaged an engine I can only guess bent valves would be obvious, even if slightly bent.

Run a compression test. I had a car that burned a valve and was running on 3 cylinders. It ran but it barely idled and it had the weirdest sound, you could totally hear the constant miss.

When I turn the engine over by hand I don't hear or feel any interference and, as expected, is difficult to turn on the compression stroke. Being out only 1 tooth or so I'm hoping to have dodged a bullet.

Considering I'm still having issues with what sounds like a bad vacuum leak I'll most likely pull the intake again and run the compressions check anyway, just to eliminate the valves.

Maybe not as severe... But that's pretty typical of what you get if you snap the belt and just put another one on.

And no, it shouldn't happen if you're just off by a tooth or two

Ever see the episode where the star, "Michael," puts a bunch of silverware in a microwave and turns it on to create a bomb?

That's probably not what it will sound like. Maybe putting silverware in a garbage disposal will replicate the sound.

Mine is OK; just retimed and revs smooth.
