At the old Org, this was the most interesting thread. Let's relive it.

The secret that I contributed was this:

Storage for your Headrests!

If you have a need to put the back seat down, what do you do with the headrests? Upon pulling up the back seat-bottom, you will see holes. Headrest holes! They fit perfectly, and you won't need to toss them on the floor, or take up room in the trunk! Brilliant!

Not sure about secrets, but you can't lock the car door with the driverside switch with the door open, and you can't use a second key fob to lock or unlock the doors or trunk if one is in the ignition. VW sure does not want you to lock your keys inside the car. About the only way is to lock them in the trunk

And you can roll down the windows on both sides using the key from the driveside door. Just hold it for a few seconds. Lock rolls them up and unlock rolls them down.

Again not a VW secret, but new VW owners like me may not know this.

This one is pretty well known but your spoiler switch is located underneath your dash (left of your steering wheel, right of your headlight switch). You have to feel around for it. It lets you put your wing up before you turn your car off and park.

From both drivers and passenger door locks.

(Newer models dont have the passenger door lock...)

Yup It took me 2 years after owning my 98 that i figured this out I actually love that feature, coming out to a locked up car on a hot day you can roll down both windows to let the heat out before opening the door

If you open your sun roof to the last click, let it open (then wait a second), you can turn the switch past the last "click or marker" and open the sun roof all the way. The switch will then click back to the last place. Don't be scared to turn it all the way, it feels like it shouldn't but it is made to.

On a side note: when the sun roof is open "all the way" it really creates a lot more wind noise. I don't use it that often.

what do you mean? mine opens all the way without doing this. but after class im running outside to see what you are talking about. but if you can post pics plz

Well I am at work so no pics. I mean you can open it more than "normal". If you notice when your sunroof open you can look up and still see the glass. If you turn the switch 1 more click then what is displayed, it will push the glass all the way back into the roof.

The dash board can accomodate over 20 cheese Krystal burgers with room for an iBook 12" and the feet of a lazy passenger

You can pull the handbrake up one notch and turn off the headlights without engaging the brake. This is good for say pulling into a drive way or anytime you don't want the lights on for a brief period of time. Valid for all years/transmissions. I don't recommend driving this way on a full time basis.

your switch might be off. the last one on mine takes it all the way back. and the notch before it leaves just a tad of class s howing still.

Nah, because my buddy in a GTI showed this trick to me. It is the last notch to take it back all the way but it doesn't sit on that notch. I guess you could say it sits on the first before last.

I was happy to find out that my cup holder would swivel to the passenger side. I drove for 6 hours after purchasing my NBC tossing drinks that would not fit under the dash.

What year did this start?? That is the biggest gripe I have with my car

It started straight away in 2003 for the 'verts, and I believe a mid-year 2003 interior update for the hardtops (early 2003 coupes had the old cup holders and center console). But even those cup holders are barely sufficient to hold anything very well. I hear the new 2006 cup holders - that are built into the center console alongside the e-brake - are a heck of a lot more useful.


How 'bout... you can listen to the radio (or CD) when the ignition is off (or even when the keys aren't in the ignition) by tapping the power button. The radio will play for about an hour before turning off, again, automatically.

To add to the sunroof "secrets" the position marked with the bold dot (about two dots from fully open) is specifically designed to prevent that "thumping" that you get when the sunroof is open and you are travelling at high speeds.

Also not sure what the secret may be behind this, but what is the thing with the windows opening and closing and stoppping at certain spots... seems to be about the same place every time.. at first i thought my car was possessed????

Mine does not do this, It already opens all the way, are you sure you don't have a funked up switch?
