Yep, one of the great things about the new set up is that as soon as you pay through the donations page, it's a done deal! It sends your id and everything along with it. It's stupid-proof (not that you're stupid, of course)!
![]() Thanks for the kind donation!

Well I just wanted to say thanks to those that run this site. Ever since I've found it I come on here at least once a day and it has really helped me out. So the 15 bucks was well worth it in the long run. Thanks again.

Already being a member sponser, i am concerned about the speed and the ability to show off what this site has without being registered. I want to know just what it is this site needs in terms of hosting and/or the cost. I am sure you could get a few nice/generous Orgers on here to cough up a little more dough to make it happen....(I'd do it!)

Thanks for the interest, Whitacre.
NewBeetle.org currently does 1.9GB (around 60GB/month) of bandwidth traffic per day and uses just over 10GB of disk space. Of course, any hosting plan we'd choose should have plenty of room for growth. For most of the hosting services I've looked into, this level of service would run between $200 and $300 per month. Currently, I'm paying about $30/month. We get about four new member sponsors per month, which translates to $60 or so. I'd be happy to move NewBeetle.org to a more mission-critical style hosting service (instead of the most personal-site sort of hosting I'm doing now) -- but only if I know I can always pay the bill. I don't have extra money to put into this site out of my own pocket, and it's no longer possible to count on advertisers. I understand you guys are frustrated, but there's a simple matter of personal finances at play here. I can't spend more money on this site than it brings in. Period. |

I'll donate 10 more times if need be. Register chat and move to a better server.

iScott:
You donating 10 times more (which is $150) wouldn't pay our first monthly hosting bill. Find 20 people to donate $15 each month and we might be able to do it. Seriously, I appreciate the fact that you're willing to donate more. But it's going to take a lot more than one or two people with deep pockets being willing to chip in. And frankly, I don't know that I want to run this site in that situation. I already have to deal with people writing me and complaining that they "paid" for this service (which they didn't...they donated to it) and demanding that it run better and faster. I can only imagine the hell I'd go through the first time the $300 service went down -- which it will, because all hosts have downtime. I know you guys love this site and want to see it continue, thrive, and prosper. The problem is that there's no business model for it. It doesn't make money, and yet it gains tens of new users every day. The bottom line is that we've reached the capacity that we can support with the current revenues. Without a significantly larger income, the service can't get better. And, while I really do think it's awesome that you're willing to donate 10 times more -- that doesn't qualify as a "significantly larger income." |
