Welcome to the new server!

I've moved NewBeetle.org to a new server. Hopefully you will notice increased speed and reliability. This move was prompted by the long downtimes we've had recently on our old server, so I'm hoping this will be much better.

The forums are up and running, but there are many things around the site that need to be tweaked in order to work on the new server. I also have not yet moved the old forums to the new server (although they are still accessible on the old server). Please enjoy the forums and be patient as I get the rest of the site working correctly on the new machine.

P.S. Also note that DNS changes on the Internet can take several hours, even a couple of days, to propagate fully. You seeing this means you are now getting the new server, but other members may not yet be. Those who are still hitting the old server are finding the forums turned off. If you speak to those folks, please assure them that they'll get to the new server in due time.

Yes -- but the chat will be a bit different. Our new host doesn't allow IRC servers, so we'll have to use a third-party IRC service. I'm going to recommend we all go to irc.freenode.net and join the room #newbeetle. I'll switch the web-based chat app to point to it ASAP. freenode rocks -- I'm on it all the time anyway, because my job requires me to be.

I dont know too much about this stuff. is freenode like trillian or can we access freenode from trillian?

Freenode is an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) server. Previously, I was running my own IRC server. You can access any IRC server with any IRC client. I *think* Trillian has a built-in IRC client, but don't quote me on that (I don't use Windows. ) Perhaps some poor, hapless soul with Windows can confirm or deny that Trillian has IRC support?

On Windows, you can definitely use mIRC, and on Mac I recommend Colloquy.

Is the "Gilligan's Beetle" bug somehow caused by the move, lol, or are these are new Reputation boxes, hehehe.

I searched and couldn't find another mention of it, but this is what I see on every single person's posts:

Right now nothing on the home page is working. I can't look at the rep I have given or gotten and I cant look at my friends and contacts. I havent tried anything else though.

Is anyone else having this problem?
