Default Converting GLS-Turbo to Turbo S body style?

Hi there,

I'd like some feedback both positive and negative of anyone who has experience of converting GLS-Turbo Beetle to Turbo S front valance and rear valance?

I'm getting the front Valance of a Turbo S and rear Valance as well.

Thanks!!!

Here is a wonderfull list of items you will need; i found this on the net and do not claim as mine, but as reference.

http://home.comcast.net/~gt2437/Turb...parts_list.htm

I also want to to this to my car but i've heard its a lot of money. I found the TS bumper (front) for $495.00 at my local dealer, but i know they are overpricing it somehow. I think you can use the rear clear corners for the front too. In theory its a very close fit and needs minor modifications; some say its a direct fit but as shown in the list there are some parts where you need to modify a little.

Um, just so everyone knows, that appears to be my list of parts from when I did the conversion. I don't mind people borrowing it, but I would like to be given credit for doing it. There were hours of work and research to get the correct part numbers for the conversion.

Just give credit to the person or people that do the foot work. We would appreciate it.

Edit because I hit the button too quick. The biggest credit goes to gt2437 (I think that was his screen name). He did a tremendous amount of work gathering a major portion of the list of parts. I took all of his posts and consolidated them into the list and added all of the tidbits here and there to round it out to a full list.

Fixed the screen name. Don't remember his real name, but without his pictures from the old org, I would not have been successful in my efforts.

a BIG thank you to su for originally posting this list some years back. i've used it several times, having converted two of my nb's to turbo-s body parts, and also my friend has used it as well.

su deserves the credit for this list, as well as gt2437 (max i think is his name).

For extensive pictures, please see this thread from the old forums. I think you will find them very informative about how to do the conversion. I have some pictures on my personal website, but these are much better and show in great detail what must be done.

Please note that gt2437 also had a 2000 beetle. He ran into one problem with the marker light on the passenger side popping out. I don't know what he finally did to fix it.

wow...thanks for that thread link!

I WANT THAT BUMPER MORE THAN EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

honestly, is the best way to get one from the dealer? I have asked this question so many times, and thought about this set-up A LOT, and it's costly, but its a big change!

For me, going through VW was actually a good thing. I actually negotiated a discount on all of the parts because i ordered everything at once from them. Everything was delivered to them. If I got a wrong part, they had to eat it and get me the right part. This would not have happened with impex or some other outfit. The dealership had a dead wire harness that I used to get the plugs I needed for the conversion so that was free. The shipping was better because they have a negotiated price with their delivery service that brings their parts from the depot. They place orders every week and the truck is rolling no matter what is on it.

Something to think about.

Where I'm in Canada, doing this through the dealer is absolutely the cheapest way possible to do it. Shipping and duties if buying from out of the country would be a bit of a pain, and there's no chance of finding a TS conversion in Canada, no hope. :P
