Alright we're kinda wanting to do a little chrometrickery to our TS. Now we're not going all out ghetto chrome. I'm talking like the subtle things such as the side mirror covers, fog and back up light rings and the third brake light ring. Anybody have em done to there NB, if so post me some pics so I can see just what I'm looking at. Also need an idea on covering up a nasty scratch on my fuel door cover and I've heard everyone rip on the chrome fuel door cover. What other options do you suggest? Thanks all.

OK, I've regained my composure.

Dood, the Turbo S is rare beast and does not accommodate exterior chrome pieces UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

Just remove the gas gate and have it painted.

Cuz they're made of solid machined aluminum and worth every penny: www.forgemotorsport.com

Ain't nothing wrong with chrome.
And there ain't nothing wrong with starting a sentence
with And and using ain't(take that English teachers!).

I have chrome mirror covers and chrome molding on Gypsy
and I plan on adding chrome tailight/headlight covers and
door handle covers. Part of the retro look.
I'm trying to stay true to a50-60's beetle.

Pics of Gypsy are here.
I can take closer pics of the mirrors if need be and the headllight/tailight covers, door handles are on order.

Hey Billsbug why are you dissing chrome when you
have pics of your beetle in the "pimpin" days chromed out?

I've done some experimenting with a mild chrome job and the only pieces left are the trim around the window and the double chrome exhaust, even the chrome caps on the mirrors are a bit too much for me and the chrome strip on the LED tail lights just had to go.

We're talkng about a Turbo S here, not a regular NB.
A small amount of the chromed pvc stuff on a regular NB is ok, Gypsy's looks gr8, as does the member above this post, but please don't go overboard like I did a few years ago. The interior pieces on my vert are billet aluminum or chromed metal and are in the spirit of the NB RSi, not the retro look.

I like your thinking, Bill

IMO, chrome and TS just doesn't mix well and chrome in general doesn't look good unless you go with retro wheels and two tone paint job.

Verts may be the exception, cuz the vert already has a piece of chrome that wraps around the car above the door line. I really like the chromed mirror surrounds, but I didn't like the way it made the car look taller, so I took them off. The chrome door handles and fog light surrounds work to lower the profile a lot and u see those chrome pieces on a lot of other brands of cars as OEM parts.

my old car Growler didnt need any chrome on its two-tone paint job.. I think the two-tone held its own with no need for chrome. see growlers new photo thread in my signature.

I been looking for some chrome addons myself, especially the rings around the vents. I like the THIN ring around the vents on the 2006's.

But I can't seem to find a mod like this anywhere. I think the aftermarket ones I have found are too thick and gawdy looking :P

any suggestions, or got an idea on how to make my own?! The thick rings that I find for NB's are just to much for me :P I want a sleek car. Not so much bling it looks like a Mr. T reject.

Dood. Get in your NB, drive to the VW parts department and order a set of '06 vent rings.

Ever see the interior of an Audi TT or a New Beetle RSi? Lots of machined metal trim, nothing "pimp" about it.

BTW, Mr T wore gold, not billet aluminum.

lol, there that last one. Isn't that yours bill? I like how it' has a nice thin trim of chrome or aluminum instead of the big thick rings like in the Audi. Not liking that a whole lot. Doesn't have that sleek feel.

where did you get those rings I can't find them. did you color them or buy them or as you said buy '06 vents?

Yep, the 3rd one is my vert. Originally I used the same design of thin 'chromed steel' rings that are now used on the '06's, assuming of course that the VW rings are not chromed PVC plastic (they might be). I recently gave these to another member, including the ones for the A/C heater knobs, defroster vents and headlight switch. In return, that member is going to oversee the painting of my interior dash pieces in gloss black.

The new rings are dimpled billet aluminum (flat finish), that match the OEM speedometer rings, the OEM Turbo S budvase and the OEM Turbo S shifter knob, as well as the Bernt pod and defroster vents, headlight switch and horn button. These pieces are not from the same source, but all look to be OEM. It's the closest to the RSi rings that u can get, VW won't sell the RSi pieces.

Here's a few pics of the thin rings for comparison. One big issue is getting them on without f'ing up the surrounding plastic and they also like to pop off when ur cleaning around them and hit them too hard.
