so, what about installing the rear emblem for a non-swivel emblem? is it the same emblem as the front?

unbelieveable. i called the first dealership in town for prices on the emblems and they said $17 for the front (which is about what i found online) and $56 for the rear (again, close to what i found online).

i just called the second dealer ship and they said $34 for the front and $106 for the rear!?!?! i told the guy that was twice what the other dealerships were charging, and his attitude couldn't have been more "whatever."

the good news is the first dealerships body shop said they'd put the emblems on for free. i'm afraid of wrecking things so...

First of all, a small note to the mods; the links from and to the real How-To are no longer working.

Now to my real question: soes anybody know the part numbers for the US-spec emblems (the black with chrome ones)?

Okay, I just received front and back European badges for my 2006 light blue convertible. In looking at the old badges on my car, it appears that they have a black rubber seal or gasket around the outside on both front and back. Do I remove this along with the old badge? Once removed, do I put this rubber seal back on with the new European badges? I guess my real question is: where do I put the fishing line/floss? between the car body and the rubber seal or between the rubber seal and the old badge? Any help would be appreciated.

I have a european NB and I don't have the rubber seal. So my guess is that you remove both the emblem and the rubber gasket.

I just received my European front and back badges for my 2006 Convertible "Ka Pu'u" but have one question. Both badges have what appears to be a black rubber seal or gasket around or under them. The replacement badges do not. Do I remove both the old badges AND the rubber seals or do I just pull off the old badges and leave the seals in place? If I do remove the old badges and seals, do I reinstall the seals with the new badges? I haven't seen any mention or any photos about this modification which discusses or shows the rubber seals my VW has. Any help would be appreciated.

For those with 2006 VW's, here's what I found out when installing my new European badges:
1. The original badge is actually made from two pieces. A chrome looking plastic VW logo attached to a black rubberized plastic backing. The VW logo is attached to the black plastic base by a number of small snaps all around the logo. The black plastic base is attached to the car by 2 sided tape. I snapped off the chrome looking piece first with a small screw driver then pulled off the black base as described in this post.
2. On the front of the car, there are no holes in the hood under the badge. As a result, you have to dremel off the two prongs on the new European badge.

Other than than, the instructions already posted are just fine.

P.S. I used a citrus based cross country ski wax remover to get the adhesive off the body from the old badge. Worked like a charm without any damage to the finish.

Anybody find these anywhere besides a dealer online?

I can find the front one all over but can't find a rear one to fit my '05 convertible.

anyone know how to do a 2004 NBC

the NBC has a small key hole in the badge

when you take it all apart their is a metal plate that sits on the outside of the car if you try to stick the new badge on it doesn't sit flat

you will need to move the metal plate inside the car but how to fix it in side is my ?

Put the rear euro emblem on my black '99 today... took about 20 minutes, went VERY smoothly!

Thanks for the great how-to, the rear badge/handle assembly definitely doesn't come apart the way it looks like it should.

Default Clarification

Just checking which models need the hairdryer method and which models need the manual 'under the rear hood' method? I understand that ALL front hoods need the hairdryer method but only some (euro) versions differ with the removal of the rear emblem? My Bug is an 02 IKON.

Perhaps if I dont know I could always pretend to give my Bugs arse a makeover with my hairdryer and assume that it is just excited if the emblem pops off?

I was thinking about flipping my front emblem, but was wondering if my 2001 1.8l turbo has the two holes under the emblem? As, if it does, I'll have to acquire myself a dremel tool?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!
