Default Pics For The Curious

The project is still unfinished as there is a reasonable amount of work yet to be done, however, here are some low quality shots for now.

Great job! Looks really incredible! My only criticism would be the huge speakers on the dash, doesnt seem to fit the theme, but other than that, schweet!

Although as I mentioned the vehicle project is not complete, everyone who has actually been seated in the car (including car audio Industry people) say they really like the front speaker placement, appearance and how it sounds, I guess like most things, it's subjective.

Thanks for your input, glad you like the progress.

The reflective nature in that area is the result of the paint work on the cluster shroud.

Thanks for the props.

Yea, I'd say that the speakers on the dash is kind of ugly.

The hood is a one-off, I had Bernt himself customize that hood for me but he is no longer in the business.

ABD owns the molds for the standard Bernt accessories and the intercooler is from ABD.

Alright, exterior wise the car looks great. Intererior wise it is a sore sight. How many guages does one need? Also the speaker set up looks horrible. Just giving my 2 pennies.

chaddicus, thank you for the complement on the exterior of my car, glad you like it.

The question, "How many guages does one need?" is a highly subjective question, the answer depends on the car, intended use and how closely one would like to monitor systems.

In the case of my New Beetle 1.8t which is modified and was supplied from the factory without any of the essential gauges required to properly monitor the engines health and condition, the six gauges that I chose are completely in order and by no means overkill.

1. Boost/vacuum
2. Wide band A/F ratio
3. EGT
4. Oil temp.
5. Voltage
6. Water temp.

Automobile and SQ audio is an extremely difficult combination which often requires swinging toward more show than go, more go than show and some level of compromise, it all depends on how accurately one would like their car audio system to replay music.

The unfinished front speaker layout in my car as with anything, will be visually pleasing to some and displeasing to others, the system placement and design was done with SQ and front/system stage accuracy being the number one concern and appearance secondary, it's not meant to win a visual popularity contest.

Go to CES or other car audio trade shows sometime, you might be very surprised as well as gain a different perspective.

I do however, appreciate your opinion and thoughts on this, it was great hearing from you.

Happy motoring...

Hey, I hope I didn't offend on the dash speakers, it just seems out of character for the rest of the car. Everything is seemlessly integrated except for those, and I'm sure you had good reason for doing what you did, and since I know little about car stereo, many props to you.

Holy mother of gauges!! How can you ceep an eye on all those?

Your speaker setup isn't that pleasing on first sight, but looking closer, those speakers look like they sounds really awesome, and the custom aiming probably makes the radio sound really freakin unbeleiveable.

No no, no offense taken, I know that everyone has an opinion and that nothing is liked by everyone, no worries.

The gauges that need to be monitored more often (boost/vacuum, A/F ratio{via wide band}, EGT) were intensionally positioned on the dash for a better/easier line of sight, the gauges needing less frequent monitoring (oil pres, voltage, water temp.) were placed in the lower bezel but they are still easy to see with a downward glance.

As far as the front speakers are concern, it appears to me that you understand the reasoning behind the design concept and you obviously understand something about music and how audio acoustics work, you are correct in your assessment.

Okay, now i needa know, who makes those speakers? They look like 8"ers. ALso did you make those tweter pods yourself? They are realy something sweet. I was thinking of doing somehting similar with some 4" speakers on my dash awhile ago, but i knew if i did it myself, it'd come out looking horrid.
