Default roof cross bars

I was at a Driver's Gear site or similar, and the cross bars listed were for later year NBs -- 2006-2010, I think. Did the earlier year NBs have different cross bars, or is it just VW trying to phase out having anything for their cars that are more than 10 years old?

the roof bars will fit the older 98-05 body as the center of the bug is still the same, its just the fenders/ front rear bumpers and some interior bits that got updated
I just bought a used set off a 08 for my 99
