well since your wheels indicate your going for the retro look then I guess they look retro except you need to get rid of the corner ones that came on the car. also they don't quite look like there in the place I would put them, there close to where they should be just not perfect.

I like the idea of them on a retro NB but then you would have to fill in the corners. And the placement would need to be more level

I've had a set from a '63 for 2 years thinking about this. The only thing that really held me back is trying to get them level so they looked like they belonged there. I think the later model ones like you have are too large for the overall look - just my opinion.

it could work if you use black vinyl to completely cover your original lights so they do not stand out anymore.
then, like mgwerks says, try to find a set of the earlier style lights to see how they fit, or else get out your dremel and reshape the bottom of those so they fit level and I think it wont look so bad. and besides, its your car, if you love it, thats all that really matters. I wouldn't do it, but that doesn't mean that you shouldnt, if you can make it look the way it should. maybe you can get a 2nd set of front fenders to modify so you can sink the bottoms into the fender and just have the orance part sticking up thru a hole there. shaped just so it will sit out of the fender 1/2" or so and look like it was meant to be there instead of just tacked on... just thinking out loud.

I'm pretty much with everyone else. Like the idea, not so sure if you should do it though. It just doesn't really match the style of the car. If you DO do it, however, I'm with the majority in thinking you should def black out the current turn signals.

If you can find a way to update them, I'd like it. The chrome housings, even the smaller 60s model ones, on the fenders with the original OEM turn signals in the bumpers just doens't look right to me. If you removed the stock signals and just had the top fender ones it'd look OK. I thought about re-locating the LED marker light on the side to the fender top... that's something you should consider

I actually like it. I agree with those who say to really pull it off, you need to fill in the corner lights.
But I do like the look and it really adds to your retro theme. I always liked those signals on the original bugs. So I say go for it.

Still "eh". I think the problem is the headlights on the old beetle kinda came out, but on the new beetle they're flush with the car. Maybe if the turn signal was more round or a little more flush instead of having this piece of orange just protruding from the fender.
But hey, it's your thing. If you like it, then do it. It'll definitely make your beetle more unique! |

Its getting there. I like it a lot more with the bumper signals "blacked out" so to speak.
Are you using 70s turn signals? if so try the 68-style singals, they're smaller and would probably work better for your purpose. The I think 67, 68 and 69 had the small ones, 70 on up had the larger more commonly bought ones. Pre-67 had the turn signal integrated into the sloping headlamp. I think the 67 was the last year for the sloping headlamp, and 68 was the year they went rounded/chrome trim headlamps... i may be wrong about that. But I do know that US models were the ones with the top-fender signals, and that some 60s models had ultra small (I mean half the size) signals compared to the 70-up models. |
