From the thread posted yesterday of the crashed 2000 Beetle from the Vortex being parted out....
I contacted the guy parting it out and I asked about the armrest. Since my 99 does not have one, I, of course, have always wanted one! He says it will come with bolts to attach it to my car. I'm just worried he's just trying to get money... so, will this work? And it's $50 and in good condition. Does this sound good, guys? Thank ya!!!!!!!! ![]()

he quoted me $75 shipped![]() Someone mentioned that our NB's should have the holes for the bolts and that there would be some minor modding to be done. Last edited by Crazy_MoFo; 10-26-2006 at 05:53 AM.. |

Actually, he quoted me $75 shipped as well but he said the clip was broken to keep it closed so I asked him if he would consider going cheaper, which he had no problem with.I felt around today while I was driving for some bolt holes and couldn't find anything but I didn't actually look. I'll look tomorrow. Thank you, everyone, for the input! ![]() |

You can buy the clip thing too. I had to replace mine and I did it myself

That's what I figured... and since he knocked off $25 for it, I considered him to be admirable because I doubt the clip thingy is that much to buy... well, who knows knowing VW, but I'll give it a try. Maybe I don't even need to fix it if it doesn't bother me!
YAY! I'm excited... I missed having an armrest cuz I always had one before! Just another place to stick all my crap! HEHE! |

I got the armrest today. It looks great and I am very excited... especially that I didn't get scammed for my $50! It's in great shape and the fabric is very nice. It's black so it won't look horrible with my grey leather... escpecially since I just got the black floormats. It just needs to be vacuumed out.
I do have a question though... The guy packed it so that it wasn't bent- just like it is straight up and down. I can't get it to bend. Is there a bubtton or something? Also, I have no clue whatsoever how to install it, LOL! It has a huge bracket on the end of it... I think I'm going to have to make a big hole in my center consel. Any ideas, guys? I'll post a pic tomorrow... my camera's in the Bug! |

If you don't have the center top piece console, you will either have to do one of the following.
1. Buy one 2. Use a Dremmel and cut it out. I installed an armrest in my 98, and luckily I purchase the center piece along with the armrest. But there are two places to bolt it down once you get the center piece off. 10mm. Gook luck. ![]() |

it is very easy to cutout the section you need to remove on the center piece to add the lower armrest aluminum mount. When you remove the center piece look on the bottom, you will see the pattern is stamped on it, cut via that pattern. You need to make the cut, bolt the aluminum lower mount down on top of the e-brake with 3 bolts, then replace the center piece, then bolt the actual armrest to the mount you just installed and you are all set. The latch buttons break easily but are available at the dealer for about $9. I added an armrest from a 01NB to a 98NB, took no more that 45 minutes, most of which was cutting time as I didnt have a dremel and used a leatherman. And once, you have that lovely armrest you will wonder how you went without it, also it is nice to be able to lock it upright to block pesky dogs from coming up front.

Thanks for the help guys. I don't know if I can do it myself so I think I'll have to have my dad do it for me. I don't even know how to begin taking of the center piece! Yea... I'm a girl...
![]() But as far as the button... I know I need to just get another one to fix the latch portion. But I was asking if there was a button to get the armrest to fold. Right now it's just straight and I know it's supposed to be 90 degrees. How do you get it to bend? I pushed and pushed and no luck! |

So, a month later and the dang thing is still sitting on my bedroom floor.
I went searching for screws today to see how to take the center piece off my car. I found 4... does this sound right? One under each cup holder and one behind the e-brake. That's all I could see and feel. Am I right? |

I believe that there is 2 more, one on eachside of the center piece. The holes are covered by round caps. Look at the center piece by the front rightside of the driver seat. You should be able to see the round cap. Pop that off with a flat screwdriver and you should be able to see it. If I'm not mistaking
If ya need any help with that just let me know![]() |

Thanks buddy!! I'll check it out again tomorrow. I want to get this thing installed already! I want it! I want it!
![]() I don't think I'll be able to cut the hole by myself... it'll be hard trying to talk my dad into it on his precious weekends off...! ![]() |

Congrats on getting this! I've considered it over the years, but haven't bothered to track one down yet.
I have taken the center console apart, but it's been a while. What I remember is that you remove the scres you mentioned to remove the cover, then there are more screws underneath to remove the structure, like the walls and stuff. But I don't think you'll have to do more than remove the cover. I know I've seen the bracket underneath, and I think there's even the shape of the cutout area on the bottom of the cover. Good luck! Let's see some pictures when it's all done!
