Default Center console swaps

anyone ever get the 06 console into an older car?

from this thread
'06 console in an '05?

if not, anyone that can tell me what years came with a black console besides 06 is any? In all the NBs we have owned I don't think we have had 1 with a black center console and we had 2 with black leather and carpet

Thanks

What do you mean by black center console? You mean the hump that has the A/C controls, or the under panel trim that has the glovebox? Or you mean the transmission hump, the area around the shifter and parking brake?

the actual center console from cup holder (or tray in the 06) back to the back seat. The lower part of the dash is just going to be seeing paint, not really worried about that. But would like to do a center console swap due to the wear and tear on all the items, including the moveable factory armrest (one of the reasons we like the 03-05). I plan on recovering the arm rest to match the headliner we are doing.... if I have to I would rather paint a 03-05 with the mostly stationary arm rest vs. the 00 we have where a big portion of the plastic moves between the seates.

aaaaaaah ok I'm with you now.

You can order a complete console for a 2003-2005 model and retrofit it into your car without a lot of work. I know I was told that so long as I welded in a bracket, I can put an armrest into my 2002 by just buying a 2002-2005 console with armrest from the dealer. The whole thing will likely swap fine. I'd check some local junk yards and see what they have as far as wrecked beetles and see if you can buy the parts from them for less than the dealer's cost.

did any 03-05 come with a black console? We used to have a harvest moon one, wasn't sure if they made them in black. Wanted to see what was available before I started asking the wrecker for parts that don't exsist.

I know the VW dealer computer lists black as a console color option for my 2002... so i'm sure it existed, likely only in color concept or sport models would be my guess. but it does exist.

lol.... so now it's the battle of trying to find one. I can't even find a used NB tape deck in the area.

Do you need a tape deck? Did yours die? I have a 2002 tape deck (with an on button -- 2003 feature, technically it's a 2003 deck) that is still in my bug. I've been looking for reasons to remove it and replace it with a real radio .... do you have a radio that your replacing or anything like that?

There is one catch, I don't think I have the radio codes but I should be able to get those from my dealer, I believe.

Let me know.

the problem we have is that be station/cd select buttons have broken (well 3 of the 6). So with the IPOD controller we use, only 3 playlists are available. We are sticking with the stock deck, I personally like the way it looks in the dash and it's a lil more stealthy. We have the IPOD controller that works of the factory CD changer controls (works awesome), and the harness to plug into the factory deck for preamp and RCA out.

So we have something functional, I have just been trying to keep my eye out for a decently priced one to replace the one we have now with the broken buttons. I am kinda in the same boat you are, if I get the new deck it will give me a reason to run all the wires for the amp and subs. I have everything I need, but it's the whole, "if I have to pull the deck anyways then I will actually wire the subs at the same time."

hm. Can you take a photo of the deck and circle the buttons that aren't working, cause i have a strong feeling that i can swap with you and live happily with it (I've gotten an XM radio now and mostly use the tape deck anyway) .... but this would also give me the excuse to fix my speakers that have somehow come lose at the same time I replace the thing.

I know turbo S's had black consoles (i think the turbo S only had the jumbo box center console for a year or so) and the color concepts have black consoles too. The 03 Uni red and blue lagoon ones had the jumbo boxes.

I havent seen any regular beetles with black consoles until 06.
