Default wolfsburg edition?

New member here. Just bought a 2002 Beetle GLS that has a Wolfsburg edition emblem on the side panel. Is there such a thing or was the previous owner just decorating. My girl is out driving so no pics yet.

I don't think there is a Wolfsburg Edition New Beetle. It's probably just a decoration badge.

Thumbs down

There's no such thing as a Wolfsburg Edition NB.

I wouldn't even call it decoration, it's misbadging. It's no different than someone with a basemodel Beetle GL putting "Sport" or "Turbo" on the hatch.

I'm not complaining at you at all, I just think you should haul out the dental floss and take care of it. :P

To qualify it would have to be made in Wolfsberg .... Lony are you around .... where was your NB made ... where you live or where all of ours come from in Mexico? I think they are all made in Mexico though.

All of them were made in Mexico. Walk down a street in Wolfsburg Germany, and every single Beetle you see there was imported from Mexico.

If your car was made in Mexico, it's VIN number starts with 3VW.

Who cares? I'd leave it on, it probably looks like it belongs on there anyway, plus, for the 12 people in the whole U.S. that know or care, it shouldn't matter anyway....

Chris is right.

In fact, there are some Touareg badges going for good prices on eBay. Put one on each door and slap "Jetta" on the hatch for good measure.

Nobody will know the difference anyway.

I used to have an ///AMG badge on my hatch until I replaced it with a TDI badge, and you're right, nobody knew the difference

As was said, they were all built in Mexico. But I like the looks of the Wolfsburg logo. It's pretty. If you agree, feel free to leave it on! You won't be the only one with it!

I thought it was hype. Other mods I can detect are Miglia wheels with sport tires, brake upgrade, Magnaflow exhaust and "wood grain" dash kit. Haven't pulled the filter yet. The car is clean though, real clean for a 2002. Guy never drove it! 16,000 miles in 5 years???

And you're right, VIN search yielded origin of manufacture in good ol Mexico. Worried about paint issues if I take it off so cheesy as it may be, the logo is probably staying on much to the dismay of VW faithful I'm sure. My girl absolutely loves this car and I have to admit it is very fun to drive! Heated seats, heated side mirrors, steering wheel and pilot seat adjustments, remote options, etc, etc....all pretty smartly designed and working perfectly. I chumped up for a 4yr warranty though cause I want nothing to do with working on electronics on this car, damn.

Nice-looking bug you got there. I love the wheels and brakes. Sexy! I would lose the dash trim kit
But fake wood always has that effect on me

Default dash kit

The dash kit just may indeed need to go. From the outside looking in it has that corporate bug image. Sit inside and you quickly see the phoniness, done pretty well, but still phony. Does anyone have links to other dash kit alternatives?

Many of us paint dash pieces to match the body color. Looks much classier. I'm working up to that myself.

The GL was actually offered with the 1.8t and TDI engines for a year or two, I believe, starting in 2003. So there are some GL's out there with a valid Turbo badge.
