Default Vinyl Decals

I am trading my Beetle in for a newer model and I want to take my vinyl off before I trade it in. I put them on last November. I need to know the best way to take them off without leaving any trace of them being on there. Is it going to hurt the paint?? Can someone give me a detailed desciption to take them off???

Kimberly

Here's what I'm dealing with....

they might just peel off on a warm day or maybe you can use a hair dryer to help loosen them up.

Beautiful decals! I'm so glad you asked this, I'm putting decals on my Beetle and I was wondering how I'd get them off in the future.

If no one here knows, you can try Yahoo Answers.

Definetly sticking around to see how to get the decals off.

I know when I bought my car originally, the dealer put on some vinyl with their name on it on the trunk lid. I just slowly peeled it off and it came off no problem. If it leaves any film, you could always use some claybar to clean it up. I'd say you should be fine as long as you go slow and steady.

I'm not totally sure but I'll throw out 2 products for you to try. Goo Gone and WD40. I don't think either of those will hurt your paint or clearcoat but someone else may jump in here like, OMG no don't do that. I'd try the warming up with hairdryer and hot sun first, to pull it off, then a wipe down with WD40.

wd-40 and a slow hand.... pick up one corner and start to peel it back slowly the key is slowly.. spray wd-40 on the surface under the decals and wipe with a soft cotton rag, keep applying wd-40 until all glue residue is gone then wash area with car wash soap.

Just removed some vinyl off our of '97 Town & Country that had been on there for at least 2 years - the hair dryer trick worked great. I used a hard plastic bowl scraper from the kitchen to scrape it off, and then the Husband used a bit of Goo Gone to clean up the leftover residue.

Well, I took them off myself. My car had been sitting in the sun all day long and they came off great with no trouble at all. (I guess this is where the blow dryer comes in handy if it's not really hot outside.) Now the other side of my car that wasn't in direct sunlight came off but it left glue residue in the pattern of the decals. It was kind of a pain but with Goo Gone and paper towels it came right off.

Now these decals were only on my car for 8 months. I don't know if having them on longer will make it harder to take off but I can't imaging that it would.

Doing it myself saved me $100!! I'm glad I attempted it. I hope this helps you out.
