Exclamation .org Armrest

1st take out rear card panel

Then cut out horrible rear card armrest

Next: Use glass fiber to fill hole

Download from google the newbeetle logo

Fill in logo to make easier mould, and start carving polystyrene

Take on board some crustructive critiscm and throw away
old mould and start new mould with wider arches
around the wheels

Put glad wrap around finished mould and apply glass fiber
and watch the mould melt

Throw away polystyrene mould and start all over
with sheets of MDF wood and glue all together

Then drill out holes in wheel arches and round off ends
so the new NewBeetle armrests fit snuggly

Then realise there is no way in hell that a trimmer will be able
to cover the rear cards and the armrest and remove
the NewBeetle armrest and put on shelf to reminisce
about at a later date

Smooth off rear card ready for trimming

Decide to do something else to something else on the Bug

If theres one thing i can highly reccomend that i've
learn't from doing this. is make as much mess as possible
as it's more Fun that way.

Also if you haven't a clue how to do it, just give it a go anyway

This was funny (not really but live and learn as Mom always said)
Another option would be to have the logo embroidered on

Funny is That's why i write them. Too much bad stuff in the world. Feels good to cheer people up with my mistakes

Did think of just having it embrodered on. Maybe i will. But thinking of cutting a 10" hole in there now for a 10" speaker

Trimmer picks up the bits soon so only got a few days left and haven't started on the front door cards yet

I think you should have kept going with the new armrest. You could have moulded so it looks like the nb logo was trying to bust through the fabric. I think you have up too soon.

I did think after it was done it didn't look too bad, and after the leather was proffessionally put on would be a mind blower

But would it be possible to trim that Bug logo ?

If not maybe i'll try and use it again without the wheels cut out. As an armrest it worked, it's just the fear of the trimmer saying it couldn't be done, or could be done with a load more money which i don't have

Maybe i'll give it another go if ya'll think it can be trimmed

that fleece fabric is pretty flexible. you might try it in fiberglass then trimming it with leather or something

Had a PM from PorscheTrimr. Seems anything is trimmable.

So it's going back on with a few modifications

There goes my Sunday

P.S.
It's going to be trimmed in leather, all i need to do is the style to my specs and then the Pro's will trim it

Sweet!

Great write-up, even if it hasn't come to fruition yet. Can't wait to see if it will work out for you!
