Default Staggered Fit

Hello Guys,
I want to put a staggered fit on my 06' VW Beetle.I am looking at an 18x8.5 or 19x8.5 front and a 20x8.5 rear using the H&R adjustable coilovers.Just trying to get a few thoughts on that idea?

The world is your oyster.......what that has to do with your question I do not know.
I think lots of people stagger around here. Wheels I mean.

Staggered wheels are going to look like crap unless you stagger widths rather than diameters.

The car is going to sit like this with bigger wheels in the back:

Plus, with coilovers, trying to run anything wider than 8" wide wheels in the front is going to be a pain and you won't be able to lower your car as much as you like.

If you did something like, 18x8 up front and 18x9 in the rear, that would be a nice staggered setup. But, running 20's in the rear is going to look dumb.

I wouldnt judge by the picture you sent of that old car.If you look at some supercars(Ferrari,Lamborghini),they are not only staggered by rim width but also rim diameter and they look good. You may want to have a look at some of them because your picture does no justice, that car looks crappy period!

Is your New Beetle a supercar?

Deny all you want but our fenders are not made for staggered rim diameters. On most cars the rear fender wells are smaller than the front fender wells, so no matter what you do your car is going to have crazy rake and look stupid.

I think that corvair looks hott!!!
First: I don't think the wheel diameter on that car is different, their size looks the same, albeit the rims look as if they are different styles.
Second: it looks like he has dropped the front of it so the tires are up into the fenders, giving it a raked look.
Third: the driveway and the road connected to it clearly run downhill throwing out the window any accuracy of what the car actually looks like sitting on flatland.
This is first grade knowledge Jordan, you couldn't have picked a more worse picture to make your point. .......

Didnt BEETLETHIS say he was running PORSCHE Turbo 18"x8" front and 18"x10" rear rims...i would say that's staggered and they too are rims designed for a supercar!Plus i got the idea from a collectors die-cast model 1951 VW Beetle conv. that i have and i must say it looks better than alot of custom designed VW beetles(new/old) that i've seen to date.Even though its a model i will take a pic and post it so you can see what i had in mind.

Staggered widths will work fine, but staggered face sizes will look weird no matter how great it looks on the diecast toy.

It's a great idea, Go with it; see how you like it!

Don't let one little nay sayer get in your way man, have some conviction!

And appropriately sized tires will prevent any rake. Just do the math, be smart about it, and finish it up proper.

just to stir the pot ... Staggered diameters.

And also you can run wider then an 8" wide wheel on coils just fine. You just need to be aware of your offsets.

with that said, running 20's on a bug tends to look poor no matter what the conditions, unless your on airbags and the car is sitting on the ground tucked.

Offset has to be correct, i.e. an 18 or 19/8.5 wheel on front would need 35et, unless u intend to bag it and drop it down far, then u would need a bigger offset to get under the fenders. On NB's, the back axle (?) is narrower, so u would need to increase the wheel width to say 18 or 19/9-10, in order to balance out with the 'poke' of the fronts. U will also need to dial down the rears more than the front to look 'flat'.

Bigger rear wheel diameter than front wheel diameter? Can't imagine any advantages at all, either for performance or looks, the rear end will stick up even further and, visually to me, the stock '06+MY's already sit taller in the back than the '98-05 MY's.

Ugh. Maybe it's the angle, but that Jetta looks awful with the wheels and tires pushed so far out.

To the OP: Do what you wish, but I agree that staggered diameter wheels won't look that great, even if you find tires that don't create an overall diameter difference. Either your car will tilt (with identical sidewall height) or you'll have a rubber band on the rear and some sidewall on the front (if you match overall diameter). Frankly, the ultra-huge wheel thing is long overdue to die; nobody with a NB needs rims that big and it just ends up screwing up your handling and ride quality. The looks are a personal thing, of course, but I don't like the looks of a 19"/20" wheel with a little strip of rubber around it.

Hey guys, thanks for the input.Think i will go with the staggered width and not diameter.I have seen a NB on 20's and the car was sitting on the tire almost, but the rims were 7.5" wide not 8" like the stock rims on my car now so i really am not to fussy about the narrower rim. Also the wheel arches had some work done and that im trying to stay away from since i drive the car everyday.I also like 19's with a 30 or 35 profile tire...i like the look, but i also want the car to be dropped as low as i could.I dont like rims that poke out further than the car, what is a good offset using an 8" wide front and a 9"-10" wide rear wheels?

I agree it looks awful, but I think it's the stretched tires that make it so dumb.
