Default Need HID help

I've decided to install HID's onto my mother's beetle as a birthday present. I am getting a 5000k kit with relays.

And now, the question. The website mentioned that the HID's (all kits they claim) may take a few seconds to turn back on after the high beams are turned off. I'm getting the kit to help the madre see better, not for looks, so this wont fly.

Is this true? Any way around it without wiring work (I want plug and play)?

Thanky kindly.

I think this is the case on all NB's, but on mine at least the low beams stay on when the high beams are activated so a hot re-strike is not an issue. I would, however, recommend disabling the DRL's. There are a few how-to's on this site, but depending on year, the easiest way is to just remove the headlight switch and bend down the "TFL" pin.

I really advocate against the use of HID kits, but I guess if you are going to install an HID kit then a NB is probably the best candidate due to its projectors. True HID output would be achieved if you did a proper HID retro with projectors that are designed for HID capsules. At least you are doing this the right way by getting a kit with relays and by only going with the 5000k. 4300k would be best but 5000k is way better than most of the other junk out there.

Good luck.

What's the deal with digitally regulated hid's. The kit I ordered showed up without the relay and the seller claimed that I got their new kit that does not come with a relay harness because the new system proves to be "safer and more practical." Website reflects the change in their product line and an increase in price (I was charged old price).

Sorry to be so bothersome. I would just rather not do harm to the mum's car.

The webmaster and the site stated, "our new slim ballasts do not require relay harnesses, as they are digitally regulated and prevent the voltage jumps that the relay was used for."
I suppose I was asking if anyone has experience with digital ballasts and not if I can save a few dollars with an old kit and no relay.
Thanks for all the help in advance. Full review and pics if I can find my camera will be posted when all is said and done.

My HID kit wasn't supposed to require relays either, but VW people were having major flickering issues and now that company includes relay wiring with all of their HID kits.

I purchased a kit (not yet installed) and it did not come with relays. How do I add them? Or do I need to purchase a different kit?
