Default Visor re-covering howto? (paging Miss Ruby)

I want to reupholster my sun visors, as they no longer match my headliner . Miss Ruby did hers back in 2007 and said she was going to write a howto, but apparently never got around to it because I can't find it. Anybody have any tips?

Yes, I've been remiss in creating How-To's. Sorry. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of the Visor process - only the Pillars.

For all of the fabric covering I used stretchy material - that's the key.

You'll need to create a template on paper for a pattern - trace around your visor and add 7/8" to all sides (5/8" for seams and 1/4" for thickness).

With right sides together, creating a double thickness of the your material, cut out the pattern twice - you'll have a total of 4 pieces, 2 for each visor.

Sew 5/8" seam from the approximate locations of the the visor connections. Turn material right-side out and check the fit on the visor. Make any necessary adjustments so that the fit is snug.

Once you are happy with the fit, remove the cover. Place a stip of carpet tape on all sides of the mirror. Replace the cover and pull tight all the way around.

Work the fabric around the visor connections and slip stitch. Tuck under any extra material on the top and slip stich the top sides of the visor together.

Make sure the fabric fits tightly over the mirror and and press down on the carpet tape to secure. Carefully cut an "X" across the mirror with an Exacto knife then tuck the fabric under the mirror rim.

Hope this helps some - good luck.
