Unhappy Shorty antenna that will fit with the Sirius base?

Can anyone suggest short antennas that will actually fit with the Sirius base? I picked up a 2007 Chrysler Sebring antenna after reading some threads on Vortex saying it was a great replacement that still got decent reception. Got my antenna today and the base is too thick/fat I guess and it won't fit. So can anyone suggest another antenna? I don't even care about reception really, I've never listened to the radio, I just wanna replace that OEM one.

Any antenna will fit. They just screw into the base.

I've bought 2 from this website. The sharan antenna is the best imo.

Yeah the sharan from parts4euro actually doesn't fit either, it won't screw down all the way. My car has the sharkfin/whip combo base, I guess not all of them will fit that base. Thanks for the reply though.

PM Hestersu. She bought a stubby for Tater, her NB with the base. Ask what she bought.

I was going to get this one from ECS Tuning: Volkswagen New Beetle TDI > Exterior > Antennas > ES#4697 68 mm long - machine finish - ECS Tuning Inc

It is also a "Sharon" style.

I like that one, But are you SURE that will fit with an XM or Sirius antenna base? It doesn't say that anywhere in the pictures that I saw.
I have XM in my car too, but I am having a hard time finding a stubby antenna that will work with the XM/Sirius base also. It is threaded different at the bottom than the regular antennas.

I have not verified that the "standard" base is threaded differently from the XM/Sirius base but I would think not. That would be contrary to VW's policy of common parts. I have found very little that doesn't fit across the model line. I can check this out with a friend's 2002 the next time I drive Tater to work (he's sitting in my garage waiting on me to finish his manicure). Just looking at my Fuba versus another friend's Porsche, they appear to be the same.

The ECS Tuning "Sharon" style comes with a 5mm or a 6mm screw. The fitment table shows all years for the Beetle. ECS is usually pretty good about verifying their parts. I will look at this as soon as I can verify a 2002 Fuba fits mine.

Actually it is. I only know this because, I bought a short-er antenna. Not one as short as you have been looking at, but much shorter than the stock XM/Sirius antenna that came on my car. It is a Fubu shorty antenna. The difference is this....
On the regular car stereo antenna, THE BASE has a threaded tip that sticks up.(Male adapter, if you will) You unscrew the antenna, and screw the new one in place. On the XM/Sirus antenna, The actual ANTENNA ITSELF, is threaded. THE BASE is NOT threaded at all.(Female adapter, if you will) You just screw the antenna into the base. This does NOT allow you to change out the antenna with just ANY antenna, because the XM/ Sirius has the male adapter ON the antenna. NOT on the base. Go take off your antenna, and see for yourself.

Is EVERYONE confused yet?? I am.

You are correct that the Sirius/XM base is a "female" and the antenna is the "male" meaning the base has the threads and the antenna has the threaded screw.

Look at the picture of the ECS Tuning "Sharon" style antenna. You will notice there are 2 small screws in the picture. These screws go in to the antenna and then screw into the base if I'm interpreting the picture correctly. The question is which screw works. One is a 6mm and the other is a 5mm. One of them should work on the existing base.

Of course the only way to know for sure is to order one and try it out. If it doesn't, send it back.

The parts4euro site has these antenna. The Sharon will NOT fit because it comes with the male adapter from the factor. HOWEVER, all the others are female. Those should work.

I purchased one for a member here that had difficulty getting it attached becasue the piece was "bi". It came with multiple screws. She had to Screw the screw into the base, then screw the antenna onto the screw. I'm pretty sure that will work for you also. I bought 30003 from Parts4euro.com.

I have the "Sharon" style from ECS Tuning on the way to me. I should have it Monday or Tuesday. The sales guy said it would fit the XM/Sirius base. I just need to select the screw that works and screw it in.

I'll let you know.
