Default Need Wheel Suggestions

With my b-day coming up, I have been told I could acquire a set of wheels for my NBC

dgoldbe2 ~ 2004 Cyber Green 2.0l NBC

The thing is I don't know what I want. I certainly like the wheels that Shrek2 sports, and Marvins dad as well.

I don't know where to get them either.

Suggestions on tires, plus links?

If anyone in the Austin area knows of a shop that deals in VW wheels that would be good to, as I could skip the shipping costs.

While I wouldn't mind putting my preferences into your head: light weight, simple, minimal.

I think the best route is to get an automotive magazine or two; make sure it's got a couple of those page-full wheel ads, and look through those. Also search through tire-rack. Also search the internet at large. And of course, use the gallery pages to see what others have done.

Finding the wheels once you know what you want will be much easier.

One cheap option to new wheels if you have alloys is to have your OEM wheels powdercoated.

I had my steel winter wheels powdercoated for $65/pice and they came out great. There are tons of colors and finishes available.

This winter I plan to get my silver alloys coated, maybe a nice bright blue to contrast with my silver NB.

Those are the four companies I like to deal with because they have great customer service, handle only quality wheels, have a great selection of tires, have excellent prices and will provide you with the correct hubcentric rings and the correct bolts to mount your wheels.

I purchased four Audi TT 18" seven spoke wheels with 225x40x18" Continental ContiSport tires off eBay about two years ago. I'd seen the wheels and really liked the look. Took a chance they'd fit. Well, perfect fit and they're the best wheels I've ever seen. Worth every penny. Hard to find.

Tom,

I found tire rack's site. That was good. Both Discount Tire and NTB had a similar feature, and NTB had a Cyber Green Vert I could use to model the wheels.

I suspect I am going to go with 18's, probably a 5 or 6 spoke pattern. I just haven't decided if with the CG color, if a darker colored rim would look better than a lighter colored one, like what I have already.

I definitely know I am not going with a polished chrome or black.

I thought about doing something with the rims I have, but they are 16's, and I think I would rather have 18's

Hey!
I got mine through Ronal - they make VW's OEM rims. Mine are 17" R38's - w/ colormatched. One thing I would warn is that the rims are painted and not powdercoated (at least not the green part) and they will scratch...so park way away from curbs! But that's good advice with any set of nice rims!

Glad to hear that you were allocated the funds for rims - great upgrade!
