Don't go to the dealer unless you bring lube. Any A4 chassis (NB, Jetta, Golf) shifter will work. The only difference between the NB and Jetta/Golf is the plastic shifter frame where it snaps into the center console. You can just swap that piece over easily.
I have an Audi S3 style shifter, they are available with 5 speed tops and are black perforated leather with red, grey, blue or beige stitching. Very nice feel to it. Got it from this guy: FS: Black Leather/Chrome Shift Knob and Boot HOT!!!!!!!!!!!! - TDIClub Forums Email (and Paypal) address: gerwazy@optonline.net ![]() How it looks compared to stock knob: ![]()

Most shifter knobs actually have screws that bite into the shifter, so most aftermarket shift knobs should work.
Taking the old shifter off is the tough part. But the aftermarket knobs are pretty much universal and extremely easy to install.

Do you know what that piece is called (i.e., the shifter frame), or where to get one other that a dealership?

If you go with a quality manufacturer, after market shift knobs are just as good, if not better, than oem. The quality is incredible. I bought a Driver's Gear shift knob that was aluminum "look". It was cheap plastic, and little pieces of it kept falling off. Now I have a Momo knob that is a million times better than the stock knob, and the one I bought from VW. |

I was just going to say, Momo shift knobs are pretty nice

When you say you don't like the design of Momo, have you really looked at what they have to offer? Because they have dozens upon dozens of designs. Not like it's just a couple to choose from. Even some that are the same basic shape / design of stock. |

Go to TMTuning.com. Im pretty sure they have a bunch of Oem shift nobs on there site and a few aftermarket ones. Lots of options on there site tho.

The problem is that the non oem shifters i have seen doesnt really fit the theme that i would like to have in side the car, it has to look stylish inside and i dont thing the Momo or other non OEM fit that. But it will be the gearknob from a Turbo S
