Default Exhaust Tips

Has anyone ever gone to a muffler welding shop and had an
exhaust tip made for the Bettle Bug? If so, do you have pictures?

Thanks.

I got them from a fellow org member here

There is one just like it on eBay right now for $95 .. which is a GOOD price.

If you bought them from VW , they cost 2-3 times that much.

Hope that helps

BUT, if I might make a suggestions?
Don't spend $100 on exhaust tips. for $470 you can get the entire Magnaflow exhaust upgrade for the Beetle and you'd be so much better off with it. Power upgrade, sound upgrade, and it has tips on it already.

No power upgrade to be had from exhaust despite popular opinion.

Depends on the motor and what is done to it. Those drivergear exhaust tips always look queer when I see them on cars. They look alright from a standing outside the car perspective but when you're driving behind a car with them they always look fake and don't fool anyone.

Hi, I bought I set of the exhaust tips from first pic in 2002 for my Bug from VW, and still in great condition to this day.

Agreed. On an otherwise stock engine...no difference. On a N/A 2.0 - no difference.

On a significantly modified TDI or 1.8T - it keeps the EGT's down allowing you to do more power mods to the engine. The actual exhaust itself might only add 5 hp or so...but that amount of power is hard to measure (within dyno tolerances) and it is hard to feel.

Now on my 2.0T I noticed a big difference going from a stock cat with a 2.25" catback to a 2.5" turboback. The turbo used to almost choke out between shifts and the turbo spools faster now. On a non-turbo car an exhaust is just going to make more noise.

I know this is an old thread...but interested in putting the tips on my '08 NBC... I found some on eBay that were about $50 cheaper than ordering thru VW part #ZVW-806-001-A ... my question is do these just bolt on like the Golf version? or are they welded?? When I had the dealer parts guy look up the tips for the bug he was surprised they were $60 more than the Golf's and that they needed to be installed differently...he didnt say how just they were more complex than Golf which had set screws....I can handle screws...cant handle welding lol....

this is ebay listing if it helps:
1998+ Volkswagen VW New Beetle Exhaust Tips Pipe OEM | eBay

thanks in advance for advice

Or just get a real exhaust...

IMO bolt-on tips look really cheesy looking at the car's side profile. You can tell easily.

well i would agree on a lot of cars, but i have seen them installed on a beetle and you couldnt see from the side unless maybe if u were on the ground...plus the current exhaust is still under warranty even...if it was older model i might considering getting new system but cant justify it for nice tips...$90 i can justify...especially if i can install myself...i cant install an exhaust system ;-)

thanks for the info. I ordered the one from ebay...as it was screw on type and came with instructions plus its $60 cheaper than dealer wanted for same part....so we shall see...hopefully it will help eliminate the black buildup on the bumper and look pretty...as long as I keep shining them of course lol.

If you would have stopped by an exhaust shop, they 99.9999989% of the time carry tips there as well. They could cut your muffler (SOUNDS AWESOME on the 2.5L motor you have) and weld on new tips in a similar fashion to the ones you just ordered. Maybe $40-$50 tops.
