Default Retro Rubber Running Board Covers??

OK, first off, try saying the thread title 10 times really fast, pretty hard to do. Looking to find a running board kit to hide the damage detailed in a previous thread (Need advice on fixing a dent) Have checked the usual online vw outlets with no success. Anybody got any ideas, thanks in advance for your help, Jerre

Default need 'em!

Our Beeble is just over a month old, and already it has black shoe-sole scuffs on the "running boards". The retro rubber covers are something I had thought of trying to make, but if someone has already made them, I'm interested in knowing more details.

Was there a thread here? Web page?

There was a thread on the old org that detailed on how to do it and a couple of guys were making them and selling them on line. Since I am up here in the great white north buying from them and gettin them shipped here was not an option thanks to Canada customs. What you need is something called carpet runner, got mine from home depot. One length will do a couple of cars, a good cutter and either 3M double sided tape or I found RTV silicon works even better. The black carpet runner I found did not have a smooth backing so the 3M tape did not hold well and came off on a hot day. Also I didn't go all the way from the top to the bottom as these guys did, I went from the top to the line where the rock guard starts ( rough section). The curves around the fenders were made using templates from paper that I cut out using trial and error. They have been on for over three years now and still look great. I use the tire shine stuff on them every now and then to keep them looking black.
