Yea it looks gross with too many indicator lights on the front. They kinda ruin the bumper. I think only reflex silver + clear oem indicators might be safe =)

Compare the sexiness

to this...

Gotcha! LOUD and CLEAR!

I have Reflex Silver and I think I'd rather go through with the shave too...

Looks a lot cleaner WITHOUT the foglights imo.

Anyone have experience in shaving these? That's the first thing I thought about when I looked at the kit.. I just recently got backed into but have the whole setup sitting back at home, so I'm thinking its a good time for the swap.

Just looking for some input so I can talk to the body shop about it next week here.

Okay so I've researched the part numbers, got the prices...and I want to clarify something.
The part numbers, for the front, rear and side skirts are ALL inclusive in the part numbers? What I mean is, for the $36 I found for the front "bumper" I get the bumper, and all the stuff to hook it up including the lights? Sorry if I'm sounding naive but it just sounds like a helluva a deal....
I found all three part numbers in stock where I plan on purchasing them.

the part number 1c0071609ua9ax is for the front bumper kit, including the extra marker lights, grills, and electrical connectors. the part number 1c0071610ub9ax is for the rear bumper, including license plate lights and connectors. don't know what the third part number you have is for. the pictures i posted earlier show everything that each one comes with (and earlier was the receipt showing that everything was just under 2 part numbers)

It's going to be interesting when people start to discover how expensive it is to shave these bumpers.

How do you mean that? Do you mean if the right materials are used? or just in general?

Well the same people who were nickelling and dimming over shipping, etc are assuming they can get the enormous indicator holes filled cheaply along with the paintjob. My shaving job is under way and let me tell you, it's using up a lot of expensive materials.

I was told that welding plastic to plastic is never a permanent seal ... that through time it may just pop out or if the bumper is tapped by another car or something like that.

This stuff "FUSOR" that you mentioned before, is it the bonding agent? is it really strong?
I want to ask my body guy what he uses before I do anything.

Why would VW make the US versions of the Votex kits with double signals and/or markers is ridiculous ... we wouldn't even be talking about this!

Fusor (made by Lord, a company out of Australia I think) is what you want. I had a local guy willing to shave it with fiberglass for a reasonable price but you need something that will flex, expand and contract along with the rest of the bumper or the patch isn't going to last.

I'm probably looking at $300-400 in shaving materials alone before a drop of paint gets sprayed, but I'm shaving both pairs of front indicators, plus the rear bumper.

Ya know SMG, I read the ENTIRE thread about the "Price drop from ECS Tuning" AND THIS thread, as well as the the installation thread, and I did not see anywhere, where anyone was "ASSUMING" anything.
Yes, people were being BIG baby's about shipping, but other than that, I am not sure what exactly you are referring to.

I have no doubt in my mind that this conversion will be expensive if done correctly, and I have NOT seen anyone say otherwise.

It appears to me that you may be making some assumptions of your own.

It wasn't any direct statements from anyone that I'm talking about. It just seems like everyone is casually talking in their own threads about shaving their bumpers like it will be inexpensive and I'm just saying it'll be interesting when a large number of people start comparing bodyshop quotes, that is all.

What may be MORE interesting is what those body shops use to fill the holes.
If the other people haven't been following along with this thread, it is possible that they may not realize that the holes cannot be patched with just anything. So, some people may end up with fiberglass patched holes and such, that may not hold up over the years, or try to cut corners on other materials, which will end up biting them in the butt in the end.

I think we should all feel lucky that we got a good deal on the kit, regardless of shipping and have the installation done the correct way.

I agree. A lot of us ended up with VERY nice OEM bodykits for cheap, end of story.

I will also say that I haven't completely decided whether or not I am going to have the corner markers shaved or not. I do agree that I like the look of the bumper without the corner markers, but I have a Platinum Grey car AND I have clear corners, so I'm still not sure if that would look bad or not. I'm still debating.
I will probably end up having them shaved, but I am not sure on the dark grey, how noticeable the housing will be.
