Thanks! I think you are right. Now that I see the close up shot of the bumper and housing together, I don't like it at all. AND the point SMG has been trying to make is, that if this project is going to be done, it should be done it right. So, with that said, I better start saving $$ because I know it's gonna be expensive and I want it to be AWESOME.

Thanks again, That is just what I needed, a little friendly persuasion.

I called my LOCAL VW parts department and the guy couldn't find the part #'s in the system. But I found a VW dealer online who shows all three parts #'s in stock. Weird.

Aww... poor puppies!

I would say that for people not shaving them that maybe they wouldn't look quite so awful if they were painted to match the body color instead of being left black (like in the picture of the yellow one earlier in the thread and the orange 'vert in ECS's thread... ack.)

weird. my dealer had no trouble with the part numbers... dunno if that just meant that dealer couldn't get them or what.

Yep. I just ordered $350 worth of Fusor products. That was my bodyman's cost, not retail. I was lucky that he already had the $80 dispensing gun.

Here's what we got:

(1x) 602ez Surface Modifier
(4x) 152 Plastic Repair
(1x) 703 Plastic and Rubber Cleaner
(1x) 700 Plastic Membrane / Reinforcement Mesh
(1x) 114 Skim Coat Putty

Do you still need a "donor" bumper to cutout "plugs" for the holes in the Votex bumper we want to fill?

That was a great little video. Thanks.
That better explains the whole process which is not easy but, very interesting!
Looking forward to seeing your bug finished!

Ahhh, so you are creating one contiguous piece of Pur-RIM (well with the help of the Fusor) the way it was meant to be. Just filling in the holes with new material instead of taking the chance of the joints around a "plug" cracking from vibration or sinking from heat.

Excellent thread. I'm hoping to grab a set. i'm hoping for another nB in the future and for the price they're going for, it's worth stashing away.

Great thread Jordan

The VW Dealer, "Green County VW" in Oklahoma, has a number of full kits that include the front / rear / skirts / diffuser, for around $350, that *might* include shipping. Their phone # is 918-712-8989. They will NOT break up the kit.

Hello everyone, this is my first post here.
I just recently acquired this Beetle. When I got it, I noticed that the grille was busted and loose. Lurking on this site, I found the ECS Votex kit and ordered it. I have seen the debate around the turn signals. I decided to keep them but paint the shells the same color as the car. Here is the finished product from last Sunday, about 3 hours after the install was finished. It was a PITA, but not too bad. The bumper still needs to be foam padded, and polished. For those interested, here is a kit without any shaving.

Your pic is broken but I found the right link for you:

Looks good actually. Better than leaving them black for sure. I bet it would also be not too expensive to have a shop mould the housings into the bumper.

I really do like the shaved bumpers better. My body guy seemed to have dollar signs light up in his eyes when I brought up shaving or moulding them into the bumper. I found this to be a happy medium.

SMG, Thanks for fixing that photo link btw

Interesting. It doesn't look too bad at all with the turns painted like that.
