Default Removing Rear Seat in 2005 Convertible New Beetle

Does anybody have a link to a thread or post with instructions to remove the rear seat in the convertibles? My wife wants to put some seat covers on and they won't go w/o removing the seat.

Any info would be fantastic! Thanks

This has been discussed a few times. I thought they could be folded down like the coupes. I've been informed this is not possible. They can be unbolted (possibly - quite probably), but not folded down.

In the coupes, the bench part of the seats folds up to the back of the front seats and the back rest folds down (after removing the head rests).

My understanding is the verts don't do this because the seats are incorporated as part of the overall stability of the vert - part of roll cage as it were.

In short, I don't think you can do it but perhaps someone else will come along and answer this more directly.

the bottom of the rear seats tilts forward, grab the back part of it and pull forward, it will flip up , there are two bars near the front holding it in place pop those loose and the seat bottom comes out . as for the back , the head rests pop off the rollover bar , at the bottom there are either two or three ( dont recall for sure since its been awhile ) bolts remove those, pull the bottom out some then push up , this will pop the back rest off . exposing the roll over bar piece. install is reverse . though the back rest can be a bear to get back on. I had a 2004 that i put hawaiian seat covers on. what i found easiest for the rear seat. is to cut the cover in half , bottom / top . I stretched the cover pinned and cut off the extra , then stitched the cover to the cloth parts on the side and rear where the actuall seat material attache to the foam backing and seat frame. I know this sounds like a lot of work but i had mine done in a few hours . sorry not the best pics but you get the idea

Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks much.

The rear seat cover I have is in 2 pieces already, and I already have the bottom piece in, so now I'll just follow your instructions and get the other part done. I'd seen where the place was to remove those screws, but I wasn't sure if there was/wasn't some other unknown little hitch I had to check before dismantling...thanks!

Three Metric hex bolts on the bottom of the backrest.
