I've already received my rear bumper from ECS but I haven't had time for a test fit... I'm starting to think the rear bumpers will not fit the convertibles....

From ECS's website. Tell me they're not mistaken?

Well put it this way. I have never seen a Votex rear on a NB, ever. I've said all along that the trunklids look like they're shaped differently.

Jordan was right! I had a quick look after work and there are several differences.

I'll post pics a little later.

Here's the cover sheet for the Votex rear - it IS for NB (dunno about convert tho!):

Alrighty,
Here are some of the obvious differences between both bumpers...

1) OEM convertible has 6 bolts running along the top
Votex one has 4

2)OEM had an indent in the middle (above the plate where the bumper meets the trunk lid. Votex has a straight line throughout.

When I tried overlapping the votex onto the OEM (We held it over the OEM bumper) is when you'll notice the seams don't line up either.

I lost the instructions and have a ton of parts left over.

What are the square spacer things for (4)? What is the wiring pig tails that converge in to one terminal for?

The 4 square spacer things you are referring to, I believe are the foglight holders. You'll only need 2 (there are 2 versions of foglights in production).

Thanks for the info again. I trust you know what you see. I am hardheaded when it comes to modding. Gonna pull mine off and check those seams out with it mounted ....That may be remedied. The holes and indent are minor issues if the seams are close enough to work...I may just have the rear arches bonded to the bumper to fill any void...For what I paid its worth it to try and fit it.

pic for reference..

I myself wont be doing this...I know a few reputable body guys who can help out with such a task. But I wont waste their time without researching all I can to know what I will need them to do.

I will still have my oem bump if all else fails

What sort of product are you supposed to use for the sideskirts? I'm ready to take the plunge

Here's what you need.
Volkswagen New Beetle 1.8T > Exterior > Body > Adhesive > ES#2207795 Body Panel Adhesive Kit - 1K0898998

I used a Scotch Brite pad to prep the rocker panels before installing the side skirts. Adhesive works well and has a reasonable "work time" so you won't have to rush the installation.
Be sure to allow at least 24 hours before reattaching the fenders.
