Exclamation Custom Garmin GPS Mount - W.I.P

Hey all,
Here is another Custom GPS Mount design that I'm working on.
It's more of an alternative for the other mount I designed.
This one uses the left side trim piece of the grab handle.
Here's how it works.
The left side trim piece of your grab handle is removed. (simply grip on to it firmly with your hands. Pull back towards you and it should just pop out)
Then it's replaced with this one that will look like the original only, it will have a Garmin ball mount molded into it.
You can have it attatched to the grab handle all the time.
Or you can use it only for road trips. It really is up to you.

Now, this is only a prototype and feedback from my fellow dub'ers would be most appreciated.

Couple of good points about this design ... in my opinion:
- Not obstructed by the steering wheel.
- Away from the air vents
- Co-Pilot and UK friendly

Couple of bad points about this design ... again in my opinion:
- Not in line of sight of driver (it sits a little lower so, you don't look like a lost noob that doesn't know where your going ... hehe j/k)
- Not close to the driver but, still within reach.
- Most importantly. It is near the passenger side air bag. It may cause bodily harm or even worse ... DEATH! (one hell of a sell's pitch)

I'm also working on one more mount using the "bud vase".
This one will be different as well.
I plan to make it universal so that all devices can be used with it. (yes even the iPhone )
As long as it has a suction cup mount.

Please comment below and let me know what you all think.
Thanks for looking
MiG

Working fine now. Good idea!!! Not as cool as the vase one, but still cool!

I'm wondering if you could make one for the other side of the steering wheel. ALL bugs also have that and it gets rid of all of the negative points you had for it.

Thought of that already and it wouldn't work.
The dash piece is not held on in the same manner as the piece from the grab bar.
It uses metal clips in the back therfore, making it difficult to duplicate.
Thanks for the input though.

Hey anytime!

What about the sliding part of the dashtop? Lots of people buy the replacements with the gauge housing. RIGHT in the line of sight Some cars even have speedos in that area!

Just throwing ideas at you. So far, all of yours have been great!

Hmm, running out of ideas now...

What about one that attaches to the plastic trim bezel around the speedo?

I really like this mount idea MiG. As you know, I have the bud vase mount, but the only thing I don't like, is that it blocks my air vent. Not really a big deal to me, but I would prefer if it didn't. I would buy this mount from you.

GREAT ideas guys! MiG you are a genius.

Mig, is it a way you can make the budvase mount slightly taller so it doesn't block the airvent? It'll be more visable to the driver too!

Would your new design have any satellite radio possibilities? I realize that the connecting part would need to be different...

By the way, I'm still enjoying my GPS mount I bought from you last year...It's just like OEM to me.

I've been testing out some new ideas. I may have something soon that would work with all devices.

Thank you for the nice comments everyone. I know that the first mount could have been better in some aspects of the design but, I'm always trying to come up with new ways of improving it.
Thanks again for your interest.

MiG I am VERY happy with the GPS mount that I currently have. (The one you made ) It does block my vent but, it doesn't really bother me. However, if you do make the grab handle style one, I will buy one of those from you too. SOoooo could you put me on your list please??

Thank you. I'm glad you like it.
I'm am still working on the grab handle version mount and when it's done, you and one other member will be the first to own one. (you know who you are)
Thanks again for your interest.
