I noticed you live in NY. If this is your daily driver in winter, I don't suggest a sliding ragtop. I've got one in my S10 and I don't care for it. The sides only seal by pressure and I've got a feeling you'll freeze in winter. Also, if it rains really hard with a lot of wind, it will leak some. (more seep than leak, but you'll have a wet butt regardless) Also, you'll be cutting a BIG hole in your roof. They look cool, but not worth it my book. I'm actually looking at having the roof reskined on my truck to get rid of mine.

I've ridden in an Inafla branded converted late 98 Beetle. It's had the top going on 6 years without any leaks. HOWEVER, that's an Inalfa brand top and they stopped making New Beetle sliders some time ago.

The owner lives in Maryland and it rained the whole weekend I was up there.

However I don't disagree that these generic roofs may leak a lot more than the Inalfa ones. The Inalfa branded ones seemed to be really really good, but really really rare.

I want one too but am torn on it. I'd almost rather perma-fix the glass from a sunroof beetle into mine but it's so tempting to get the slider. I fear it would affect my roofrack I'm looking at getting.

[hey chris)

I saw another one for sale at a VW show in Pennsylvania a few years ago but I was too broke to get it I guess just keep an eye out on vortex and other classifieds. I like my inalfa- only trouble I've had was with one car wash in NC that has a bad jet that got a bit of water under one corner- never had trouble in heavy rain or at any other carwash. The inalfa has a steel frame that is contoured to the beetle roof- so no idea if other ragtops are similar in terms of leak-resistance/proofness. I have a pip rack over my sunroof and had to put in some one inch spacers in the brackets to have the folds clear the rack slats/tubes- just little chunks of aluminum square tubing with holes drilled.
Good luck!

thanks everyone on the input ! i have been doing a lil research myself and on the hunt for this inalfa top. i do live in NY and the winter can be quite crazy. that is a good point though , heat is already a problem cause my beetle is the TDI !! lol . and observation i made when i rode in another beetle with that same top as the pic is that it was quite noisy as opposed to a "flapping" sound is that a thing that most of you guys experienced or no

cheers
matt
