Default How does one remove the door lock pins?

Hello everyone,

I ordered a beautiful set of TT-style door lock pins from TM Tuning, and I've procrastinated far too long in getting them installed. My question is: how do you remove the stock door lock pins? Do they unscrew counter-clockwise? Pull straight out? I would rather not unnecessarily damage the OED pins and still do this (apparently) simple modification myself.

Also, is it okay to use pliers to remove the pins?

Any info is greatly appreciated, as always.

All the best!

I wrapped the pins with some electrical tape and used pliers to pull up on them. Stronger hands might be able to do it without pliers, but I needed them

I should remember this because I sold a bunch of the Turbo "S" door lock pulls......I think you only need to turn the factory pin 1/4 turn - driver door is clockwise and passenger door is counter-clockwise. But don't hold me to that. It's in the Bentley Manual if anyone has one laying around. I'd check, but I'm at work. The new ones screw on normally.

Good luck!!!

I know this is an old thread but I was just curious what the correct procedure is to rip those door pins out of the door?
Got some Aluminium Door Lock pins and have no clue on how to install them.

I can see what's in the Bentley, but why would you want aluminum pins. No strength or wearability, steel or stainless steel by the book in my head!

Well, I don't even know if they are Aluminium or steel. I know they are brushed and shiny and they were a present from a new friend. If you find anything in the Bentley I would appreciate it. My Haynes Manual is pretty much useless.
Besides they shave off at least one or two Micro Gramms which will make my car a lot faster.

We see what your sayin. But since the stock pins are plastic, the brushed aluminum are the next step up......by the book in anyone's head.

Sorry Tom, a little confusion here on my part. I didn't read the thread, just the new post, yours, and didn't even read the second sentence in it's entirety. I got "rip door pins out of doors". Hinge pins, of course! What other pins are in a door. And I have had to replace the steel ones in several vehicles after a quarter million miles, which was why the aluminum v. steel or s/s comment.
Anyway, they are referred to in The Book as "Release Rod Securing Knobs" not lock pins.
Here's the R&R, by the book...
