Default VW Badge Swap question

Happy New Year to all!

Here is my first silly question of the year:
Does anyone know if I can fit the later style hood and trunk 3D emblems to my 04? My existing ones are badly scratched and the rear one that has the slide thing for the keyhole is dented. I like the later 3D better because it doesn't look as cheap.

Thanks in advance!

Mornin' J. Happy New Year!

Good question! I need to do something with mine also. Cheap, cheap, cheap. And I understand the blue Euros, which I do like the looks of, don't hold up either. I read somewhere, just recently that the 3D's were '98's. I'd sure like to know, and a p/n for front and back. I'm thinking about buying one of those p/n downloads off eBay.

I like the euro badge but I am not sure about the color contrast against the red. I also like the 3D look of the new oem badge, kind of retro.
We have the idea of putting a deck lid aircooled Volkswagen script on the hatch as well just to give it that nostalgic look. I it doesn't look good we'll take it off, its cheap enough.
Idk if the new badges have the slide triangle part for the key hole but I don't think I'll ever need that.

How was the food down by you, did you pig out?

I have the same thought with the blue against my dark flint gay with dark red top, although there is a degree of nostalgia... I actually thought about the aircooled round, open VW, badging, but not sure what I'm going to find under the existing and also the difference in convex surfaces. I was already to do the blue, then I saw a post that they don't hold up either (they peel). I don't have a deck key lock, so that's not a concern. The 3Ds seem better made, but as I said, I just read, somewhere, where that was the 1st design on, and only on, the '98's. Haven't looked at the late models to know if they trended back that way.

Dinner last night was frozen pizza rolls, Mamma went and played bingo, one of her addictions, and showed up about 10 minutes till 2011. Fine with me. This time of year I'm home way too much. "It's complicated"

I've lerned to read between the lines

I went to bed at 10 pm last night, I was sick as a dog and on top of that I had to go to the supermarket, cook and then do the dishes!

PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM NOT COMPLAINING... JUST VENTING OUT!

The new ones, I believe after 06 went back to the 3D badge, of course now that I own a beetle I see every single one that crosses my path and not only that I dissect it with my eyes My wife seems to think there is something wrong with me!

As far as the air cooled badge I don't think will fit the back holes and the front has that curve so its a no go.

What I meant was the script that says "volkswagen" that they have on the right side of the deck lid that angles from bottom to top, since they didn't have a VW badge on the back but the license plate bracket and light housing. I think it would look kind'a neat.

The aircooled that I remember, my Mother owned three, had the round border cut out "VW" all the way back on the hood, just in front of the windshield. I remember washing and waxing her bugs. Learned to drive a stick with her '60. She only had to replace the pressure plate once (before she knew I was driving it - lol). From memory they might have been slightly convex, but I think maybe a little larger in diameter.

And I know the rear badging you are referring to, it was convex, and the parabolic curve was probably not the same, but might work by increasing or decreasing the angle. I'm sure they were pin mounted as all badging was back then, and you certainly don't want to drill yours and fracture the paint seal. But you could grind off the ipns and 3M VHB them on if you can get them tight to the surface. I'm sure they are cast so they are not going to bend more or flatten well.

I'll start paying attention to the 3Ds as well. Need to make a trip to the Dealership anyway, for a couple things, including the little pocket below the cd changer.

Hope your feeling better today.

Yes that's the look I want. Is that your car?, is that the swivel style from 98-2001 or the new 2006 and up?

What I want to do is replace my ugly cheap looking 2004 emblem with the 2006 and up 3D that is flush mounted as opposed to the old swivel style 3D. The one on your pic seems like the swivel one.

yeah its one of my 98' (swivel).
Sorry I don't have any experience with 2006+ but my guess is: it will work.

I am thinking it should work too, but if it doesn't it'll be an expensive mistake.
Thanks for the picture.

My 2005 does not have the swivel hatch emblem, it's just the emblem and not the lock. I replaced it because it was peeling and looked cheap and awful. It's difficult to remove (lots of threads on here about that using floss, hair dryers and other things) but the new 06+ style looks much better! good luck.

Here's my 3D front badge, along with a self-portrait...It looks gold, but it's silver. It's reflecting the top of my carport.

Hey Kenny I see you have an 04 like me, is that the old badge or the new 06 and up? Did you replace the rear one as well?
Thanks

Hi J.Arce,
That's a newer badge on the front. The original one started peeling pretty badly, so I replaced it with this one. As to whether it's a +06 badge, I don't really know. It could be a knock-off as far as I know, but I like it.
I think it's this one:
VW Beetle NEW OEM Front Hood Emblem Black Chrome Trim - eBay (item 220692248933 end time Jan-03-11 06:12:39 PST)

On the back, I just stuck this one over top of the existing one that was peeling as well. This one was only $11 and is an improvement:
VOLKSWAGEN VW GOLF PASSAT BEETLE EMBLEM LOGO BADGE 10.5 - eBay (item 170555834715 end time Nov-22-10 15:16:45 PST)
Keep in mind, the rear emblem is considerably smaller.

Cool I guess the newer OEM badges do fit. Thanks for the info I'll stop at the dealer to see if they stock the one for the back and to check on prices.

I guess these would be the 2 different ones for the front on this page? I'm trying to narrow down a part number to start searching for.

Vw Beetle Emblem at Auto Parts Warehouse

The first one is considerably more expensive than the second one so I would assume that's the 3D 'carved' one? I am beginning to wonder if the curve of the hood/trunk on 2006+ is different and that's why none of these badges are listing for anything higher than 2005.

That's why I want to go to my local dealer. My question for them would be is the decklid interchangeble between 06+ and an 04 which is what have.

The one Kenny has on his hood is OEM, the one he got for the decklid is aftermarket hence the big price difference. Note that he says it is also smaller than the OEM.

Your front is exactly what I think we are all looking for (is it cast or plastic?), but I don't think your link to the one on eBay is it. At least not unless the one on eBay is different than the pic. While I see some 3Dness, it lacks the black borker outside the chrome. And does list a p/n, but from the fitment listed, I believe it is the flat, stamped, painted background we already have.

I have to agree abt the '06 on. And I think the first , more expensive one may be 3D, and it does have the black outside the chrome, but the "OES" v. "OEM", lack of OE p/n and screwy fitment chart makes me wonder. Lot of money for a knock-off that may even be plastic. I'm not really seeing that much 3D in the pic.

I still think what we need is the OEM front from the '98 and a pre '03 for the rear if a 3D was made that did not have the swivel/key fixture. I read somewhere that the curve of the body, hence the curve of the badge is totally different from front to back, at least prior to the '06 body changes

I think this is going to require a trip to the Dealer. Anybody bought one of these "parts" number identifiers?

For six bucks, I'm tempted!

My front one is definitely cast...not plastic. The rear one is chromed plastic, like I expected for $11.
