Default Thinking about doing my headliner

The dealer that I got my nb from replaced the headliner..its like a blue color and is not done well. I would like to put a new one in but I really don't know what type of pattern to do. I seen a few different ones on here but I'm having a hard time deciding.

I'd like to do something with pink since I have some pink interior but don't want to over do it.

Just looking for suggestions on what would look good and good places to buy fabric!

I attached the picture so you could get an idea of what color my interior is!

Hm, if you are going to redo the material on the roof, how about a pink flannel or a pink & black argyle pattern?

Flannel..

Argyle..

Kind of like the first one better, maybe because it looks like the seat fabric on the new GTI's
Do you get a lot of glare on your face from the painted center part of the dash?

Also, I forgot to mention, there is a company that does fiberglass headliners that are PAINTABLE for your car...

VW Beetle - New Beetle Fiberglass Headliner Board, Volkswagen Fiberglass Headliner Board - 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009

This lets you paint it how you want and install it in place of the cloth one, but it only works in cars that do NOT have a sunroof (which I believe is the case in your car)....

Number of folks here on the Org bought them and have done it

Love Machine, here on the org did theirs like this..

(just noticed that it is temporarily unavailable, but you can contact them and ask about getting one if you are interested)

I REALLY like that plaid flannel. Wish I was talented enough to do my own headliner. Mine is still in really good shape though.

well I went into town today and really couldn't find anything that I like that would fit so now I'm searching online. I found a few peace sign patterns that are cute..but I'm still undecided!

Doesn't want to display the picture on the forum. I'm planning on doing a white two tone on the blue stock color. So it will have some white to go with it.

The rest of the interior is white/offwhite as well. The material is almost shiny, it's actually pretty bright.

linky

got it in last night, interior mostly out still, but looks pretty sweet. I think I'll do the rear C and B pillars to show off a little more as the white now stands out and doesn't go with the new headliner.

If you have never done anything like it, get something that is very flexible. I got regular shiny cotton printed stuff, and it does NOT stretch much at all. I managed to get most of the curves and dips glued down. I did have to splice it at the mirror mount, it was just too much to as of that fabric after trying for half an hour.

The stuff you want for a quick easy install is pretty stretchy, I spent about 3 hours taking the foam off with a knife and completely fitting the fabric. Time flew!

What are the dimensions of fabric that you buy online when it says "by the yard"?

I have read in other headliner threads that about 1.5 yards was sufficient with a little extra for doing just the headliner. Does that sound correct?

Really, all I need to know for this mod is the dimensions of fabrics when they say by the yard, how wide is it?
