Default Tire Sizing Help please!

Hello all,
Have some 18" Axis 7even Mod Wheels that I'm going to redo and put on my 2000 beetle TDI.
They fit well etc...had them on it before, but my question is...
What is the biggest tire size I can go on my 18's. I don't want any rubbing issues. 225/?40-50?/18?
by size I mean sidewall, I do not want a low profile tire! Recommendations?
My car is not lowered, and I don't plan on lowering it. Stock all the way around suspension wise. The mud flaps already drag
I want a bigger tire b/c where I live is pothole and roadwork central and even with my careful driving it was impossible to not have the blowout I had...lol
Thanks!
David
I couldn't seem to find anything about this in other posts...

The biggest you will be able to go is about 26 - 26. 3 inches in overall diameter on a stock suspension. And if you go too wide, it wont work either. I think the best you will be able to do is a 225-45-18. Still pretty low profile but that is the price you pay with 18's.

I run 225/45ZR18 on 18x8 +35mm wheels, no rubbing at all, even at almost-full suspension compression at a track day.

Forgot to mention... for my next set of tires, I'm thinking about trying 235/45ZR18 or 245/40ZR18... but I have 8" width wheels... if you have the standard 7" or 7.5", I wouldn't recommend going over 225/45ZR18.

the proper size tire to keep the diameter of the wheel as close to stock as possible would be 225/40/18

If you would have read the question, he is looking for the biggest tire he can fit because the stock 18" size is too low profile.

With an 8" wheel, you could even get a 245/40R18. I plan to try 235/45ZR18 or 245/40ZR18 when I need new tires.

Also, "believe" is not a good word to use when talking about tires/rims. If you try to fit a 235/45ZR18 or 245/40ZR18 on a 7" rim, you'll end up with sidewall deformation and that will not do good things for tire longevity or handling.

You can usually find the diameter, width, and offset of the rim stamped on the back side of the wheel. It'll look something like this:

The picture shows a 20" wheel with an 8.5" width and +52mm offset.

225/45/18 seems to be the route I'll be going guys/gals. Wheels are 7.5's. pretty excited to get them done and order tires. Will post up pics and such later. gonna be a bit before the wheels are done. thanks for all your help, if anyone thinks I'll have any issues let me know!

I'm z85 crew cab 2wd and my pro comp tire are about 29.5 tall and due to the rim size (16) and the backspacing and offset and the multiple accidents its been in the tires do rubb on the frame and sway bar at full lock
