Wheel Adapters Questions/Suggestions

Well, my wife and I had to visit a dealership this last weekend to pick up new interior door panels for her 2001 Beetle.
While we were there we saw one of the 2012 models with the retro style wheels (black with the chrome center and VW logo). She immediately fell in love with these and wanted them for hers. I knew this was not going to be possible with the bolt patterns likely being different.

These retro style wheels have a bolt patter of 5x112, and her Beetle a 5x100 pattern. Now, I've done some quick research this morning and came across wheel adapters in order to fit wheels not made for a particular vehicle's pattern.

Has anyone done this before?
What kind of work goes into it?
Suggestions/Concerns?

I plan on going to a shop and talking with someone about it this week but wanted to get the opinions and suggestions of some individuals who may be more familiar with this than I am after an hour of Google searching.
