Dashboard Covers

Hey!
This is my first post in the forums!

I'm a teenager that just bought a 2000 Beetle Turbo GLX this July.
Her name is Emil.

Ever since I bought it I've been fixing her up. I fixed the emblem on the rear
trunk (as it was ripped off from previous owner), fixed the sound system, and
I'm in the process of adding new exterior lighting.

What I'm looking into for my next project is dashboard covers, the Beetle is the
only car I know that continues the exterior colour of the car into the interior.

I was looking for some green dashboard covers to spice up the interior of my car.

If you guys have any suggestions on dashboard covers or even tail lights/head lights, ect.
that would be great!

Many drivers have painted their dash pieces and posted here about it. I haven't done it (yet) but it seems fairly simple.

I made my own dashboard cover for the top part of the dash. Here's how I did it:
1. traced the top part of the dash on some newspaper to make a pattern

2. picked out some fabric that I liked at the local craft store, then used the pattern that I made to cut the fabric to match the shape of the dash

3. installed the cover on the dash with double-sided adhesive tape

The way I did my dashboard (the little box in front of my bug), was I did the same as bug_dude, except instead of double sided tape, I used spray adhesive that could withstand 110+ degree weather...since tape tends to melt in my car at those temperatures.

A suggestion you could do that I have used myself several times is to buy coloured vinyl, cut it to the size of the dashboard and then stick it like that. I haven't taken pictures of my bug recently so I can't really show you what I mean.

You can see what I did to the dashboard from behind, and I used that same vinyl technique I mentioned to do the emblem. The trunk cover (which you can barely see under the checkered blanket in the backseat), is done using the same glue technique I used for the dashboard. If you're too unsure, go for vinyl first--its not permanent and won't damage your car.

Just buy some upholstery glue and some material or thin vinyl

Just don't get carried away

First attempt i covered everything i could







2nd attempt, i used the same method to do the dash but used leather




Don't be worried about the reflection of the color you choose.
You just get used to it. Have Fun and post photo's

As with your rear lights, get some daisy covers sprayed the color of your Bug
And some Daisy wheels or Teddy Bear Wheels or Bug Wheels..
Then get some eyelids color coded too.
Few ideas there to be going on with

^ I thought I was the only one who wanted to cover the whole car!! Everyone I know told me not to cover the doors or the roof interior!!

It looks great though Blugg! On the second attempt, did you cover the whole part inbetween the seats in leather or did you buy them like that? (Because I'm assuming you bought the orange seats.)

Everyone i see drives boring (Yawn) cars
Do what you want, what can possibly go wrong
There's a looooooong thread on here somewhere with how to
do the headlining that other folk have done. I didn't do mine


I went from the do it myself of this



To getting a Bentley manual and taking it out and cover it bit by bit



Trouble is, i got so into it, i couldn't find a How To: Trim seats
So i got my best friend a Trimmer to do them. Not as expensive when
your paying mates rates. But the dash, speedo, rear parcel shelf, trunk and a few other parts i did myself.
Learning curve





To this, people stopped saying you couldn't
and just let their JAWS DROP

I will definately try to line the interior of my whole car in checkers now this winter.

If not, well, I'll probably invest in checkering the exterior with vinyl.
