Japanese tail lamps

So I was looking at Japan Yahoo auctions earlier and looked up beetle tail lights. They aren't white and red like the euros, but they seem different from the US spec amber and red.

I can't tell if I'm seeing things or not, but is the amber much more distinct on these than we have in the US? Maybe a cool OEM+ upgrade if my eyes are not deceiving me!

Have to be a genius (or Japanese..lol) to figure out that site...I really like the Japanese ones too..Overseas always gets the cool stuff for their cars..

I really don't see that much of a difference. The more Amber top part could just be from the angle and lighting the picture was taken. Even so, I prefer our American Tails from 98 to 2005, Starting in 2006 they don't look so good anymore.

at night the 2006 up lights look like a squinting japanese cartoon character when lit up- YUCK!

I wish though someone would make a mold of the 98-05 taillights and cast them in solid tranlucent red like the 06 plus lights in such a way that theres no inside "fluting" in the lens- it would really update the look of the car as fluting is a very 90's era dated styling of all makes of cars that the beetle could feel up to date without! I may try to accomplish this!
