Default Thinking about creating Angel Eyes for the beetle

You heard right! I have the tools and (hopefully) the experience to make two big ol' angel eyes (the lit up rings around BMW headlights) for our bugs! This mod is going to be a drawn out pain in the arse, but I think it'll look awesome at night with two big circles/ovals going down the road. everyone please tell me if you think it'll look stupid or if it'll look great, i'm not going to all this trouble if i'm confused and it's going to look dumb. p.s. this will be on a 2000 2.0 techno blue beetle, and I was going to install 8000k HID's and paint the housing of the headlights at the same time, just for arguements sake.

If i'm not mistaken, that very Beetle should be on the East Coast this very summer. I had already made a mental note to check it out.

Back on topic...

Until today i had no idea what angel eyes even were. Before today i thought it was just a really cheesy song by Jeff Healey Band.

I like the concept of the angel eyes. But wonder if it would look better around just the projector part of the lights.

yeah, I'm still toying with the idea, I just bought the acrylic dowel on ebay. I'm going to paint the inside of the headlights with the same paint i'm using on the interior right now, i got it at www.automotivetouchup.com, and it's a perfect match! not a bad deal either, one can was enough to do the dash!

I highly recommend it for anyone thinking about painting anything.

That very beetle is sitting right outside my window at work. However, it no longer looks like that as it was hit by a drunk driver a year ago. It now has a smoother look to it.

Thanks for the compliments though.

you make them yourself...there is no aftermarket version of these....yet! Total cost for me was about $30 but that is because I bought 100 leds and enough acrylic rod to make about 6 total. Here's the link to my How-To:

I'm gonna mark that how-to to transfer it over to the newer forum as soon as I get time. Thanks Blaquea8

Holy crap! I am making a set for sure, i'll wire the angel eyes up to be activated by a switch that I'll put in my empty button slot area thing.

yeah I got the acrylic rods, now I need to track down 4 bright LED's, I think i'm going to wire them to the turn signals, so the turn signals only light up when they're activated, not all the time while the headlights are on.
