Default BCC Exhaust

A couple of org members have expressed interest in how my BCC exhaust is configured. Here is a few pics hopefully to answer any questions. Here is a link to the kit I purchased from gargos. http://gargos.dyndns.org:81/newbeetle/bcc1.jpg

Hmmm. Why are the pipes so rusted. There is no resonator on the exhaust either.

This exhaust is somewhere around 5 years old. Its not rusted bad just some surface oxidation. The pics make it look alot worse then it really is. No there isnt a resonator, I'm probably gonna run it mufferless too.

There was a resonator on my setup, just above where the kit was cut. My shop had offered to remove it as well, but considering the lack of any mufflers on it as it was already, I didn't want that. Believe me, the way it was there, people could literally hear you at least a mile away. It's a great sound too, probably most comparable to that of a Porsche, but you'll really notice the difference inside the car.

That was going to be my next question. How loud is it without a resonator. I dont want to wake up my neighbors when I come home. Gargos, do you have any audio clips at idle and doing passes?

Without the resonator I would have no idea, and unfortunately, I don't have any sound bytes from my own car post-modification. I was told back when I first acquired the kit that it sounded just like a Porsche, but I had no past experience with them to compare it to. It was probably a good year, year and a half after I I had it modded that one day I happened to pull into a gas station where a Carerra was filling up. I didn't think to listen to it or compare it at the time, but as soon as the car started up to leave, it struck me that it did sound almost exactly the same as mine did.

Sup gargos? Whats happening? Probably another week on my paint then a couple weeks for the new rims. But everything is coming together nicely. You had a 2.0 with the BCC exhaust right? I cant wait to hear it roar on a 1.8T. I'm seriously thinking of running it straight, no muffler, no resonator. We dont have a bad noise ordinance here so after talking to a few org members who have ran mufferless before I think I could stay outta trouble. I don't really give a crap about my neighbors.

Yeah, I don't think you'd really have any trouble at all. It was louder than the Beetle everybody's used to and you could certainly hear it in the distance, but it wasn't any type of noise that should annoy others around you. The only people I annoyed as far as I know were just the ones that rode with me

Luder is better but not too loud. In Chicago and surrouding areas cops have been increasing tickets on loud aftermarket exhausts and motorcyles. I dont want to have to worry about getting pulled over and get tickets. Dkarman. Can you get a sound clip of yours when it is installed during idle, reving and doing a pass. Im sure others would like to hear it as well?

Going to see if I can get one from BCC.

Probably be a couple weeks but I'm sure I could get a sound clip of it idling and reving.

What size is the exhaust.

I ran mufflerless up to about month ago with 2 1/2" exhaust. I had a borla race muffler that I put on but believe I will go back to mufflerless. I like the sound of mufflerless and my exhaust was not real loud under normal throt., but under wot it was wicked sounding. I am running a cat and resonator. I noticed more improvement on top end running mufflerless. If your wife rides with you or drives the nb -i suggest to use a muffler--uhh--speaking from experience.

Dkarmann that body kit on your nb will look great cant wait for pics. Give mufflerless a try.

The exhaust I have measures in at 2 1/2". It has an adapter on that cuts it from 2.5" down to 2". Is it possible to pick up just a resonator? If I can how much difference would it make with or without? I'm not 100% sure but I thought that a resonator is just a smaller muffler that exhaust companies add to get a certain "tone".

You could get another resonator. I am little confused -it looks like some kind of muffler, or resonator on your purchased exhaust system.

I am sure the resonator would change the tone some. Now if i run my nb especially without the cat. some fault codes would appear. But i believe you do plan on running a cat.

You are going to have to experiment some--it could be the exhaust system without muffler, and res. would be too loud.

Wondering if you have a vag-i could not do wiyhout my vag com. It really tells me what is going on under the hood.

From my understanding my kit is the #2 BCC kit ever produced, I can date it all the way back to badness on the old forums. It stands to reason that since my exhaust system is around 5 years old that it probably will look different then the new one. I'm sure that since BCC is under a different owner then when my kit was produced some things will be a little different. My exhaust seems a little crude and beefy compaired to the new exhaust which is something I would expect to see considering the age of my components. My exhaust had different tips welded on that are larger then the ones from BCC. Red Rider in the pic there is a muffler and I have it in my possession. It is a factory vw muffler but I dunno what year or from what model car it is supposed to fit. So Red Rider your running a cat, a resonator and a muffler? I've found some resonators on e-bay but they all seem to really be just a "race cat" or "test pipe".

Never seen that one--looks ok but the inlet is 2.5 and ,unless I am looking at it wrong, outlet seems to be larger. If you plan to put it in series with exhaust pipe seems like you would need a reducer on outlet side. I would find out the size of the outlet.

I am running apr 2.5" turbo back exhaust with cat and resonator and a straight through borla race muffler. I plan to take muffler off soon, depends on which body kit i use.

I'm thinking the angle of the pic may be causing the outlet to look larger. I could always email them to ask, no harm in that. I guess I should just take what I have to someone and let them help me. I dunno crap about exhaust systems. Yllwtrd here is a copy paste from Better Buisness Bureau about BCC you can look for yourself. Not trying to talk you outta buying from BCC, I just think that having all the information possible will allow you to make the best decision as to how and where to spend your money. Do a couple searches on the old forums for BCC or Beetle Cup Connection. Best VW Parts is who you will make your check out to when you order from BCC, trust me I know.
