removing the base racks is extremely easy.....take the key the dealership gave you and open the plastic covers on all four feet of the rack (above the VW logo). The with an allen key (I dont know what size, but if you buy an allen wrench multi tool....itll be on there) loosen the allen bolts that are underneath the plastic covers. There will be four...one for each foot. Then take the racks off. Should take you 5 minutes tops. IMPORTANT! Dont take out those allen bolts. Just loosen them enough to take the racks off. Good luck!
