I have decided to turn my yellow bug into a fake offroad machine. Meaning, it will look like it would be able to tackle any mountain Colorado could throw at it, but in reality it is a street machine. Ordering my 2" lift kit today.

Any suggestions? I am not cutting my roof out but I do need some help in deciding what size tires to get. Anyone have a formula for that? I would prefer no rub. Rims are 17x7 and I am buying a 2" lift.

Yeah, I have been trying to find him on the new board. I made a thread asking about him, no responses. I ended up signing up on the TDI boards and pm'ing him. Just awaiting his response to order my kit (today hopefully).

Thanks. HAHA, he is gonna have so many emails about me. I am more excited about this project than my black beetle I think. As far as styling goes, anyone have any suggestions for me?

Are you ordering the lift kit from the link in the post that marvin linked to? If not; from who are you ordering? I have wanted to do this (with a stringer exhaust) for a while; knowing that I can now easily buy the parts I may go ahead and do it!

Well from what I read on the TDI forums, he has them readily available. I think he just creates them as a side "job". I havn't talked to him about it yet but I guess my answer to your question would be yes, that is where I will be ordering it from.

From some research I have done, you might want to replace your shocks and struts but it is not neccessary.

I'd suggest maybe a Votex, TurboS or Deitrich front end...to get the secondary lights on the front.

For the rear chrome you could get the Kamei rear valence...

If you did decide to keep her front end and not get an aftermarket - maybe do the Kamei front insert as well...in chrome...

Looks like you can get a few more chrome goodies from them as well.

INTERIOR

Of course you gotta do the chrome/industrial floor mats as well...
TT-vents, but seeing as how they have hiked those prices up - maybe you can get some TT-type rings for the vents...
TT-shift base...

You should be able to get something to knock off the body bumpers pretty easily, maybe even that Kamei piece that they have on the side skirts painted to colormatch...
Fender sheilds painted grey as well as maybe painting the existing side skirts or getting aftermarket sideskirts and paint them grey.
If you can find some rims like that, it would be bad-ass!

Oh yeah, the carpet is definitely coming out. Prolly going to have the fender wells painted yellow (might just spray paint them b/c they will just get dirty).

That body bumpers idea is awesome!!!!

Sorry I can't be of any help on the tire size, but look at what they have on there....well for 18's at least.

This could be a pretty cool project!

Well after feedback from other forums, to do big tires I would definitely need smaller rims (like 15"s). They just don't make tires that will fit 17"s that aern't ATLEAST 9" wide. So it looks like I will be copying the concept and doing big rims w/ smaller tires.

Yup...small wheels with tall skinny tires is the best bet.

Do you have a skid plate?

man i've looked at metalnerd's shop a lot, i ran spring spacers on mine for a long time, but they lack the integrity anyone is looking for, though they'll stand up to the rigors of the road for about five thousand miles. if i had a job i'd totally go for it, but yeah, i was also looking at shaving down the fender wells and maybe even a set of tube bumbers. the only problem with big wheels is in the rear, no matter how high you lift it you can't go to big without rubbing on that inner fender well right by the rear lights. and then the macpherson strut assembly in the fron poses a small problem, but i think with maybe a spacer just for a little extra clearance it'd be fine... yeah, i've run through a lot of the particulars, but cost is really what it comes down to for some of us.

dvoius,

If you make a Baja kit I will be the first in libe to buy it.

I lifted my yellow bug 2" with a kit from Marty Bergal www.martinbergelllc.com.

Hey Dave, that link doesn't work.

I wasn't thinking about manufacturing a kit for sell, just turning my yellow beetle into a Dune. If I had the resources to make multiple kits and sell them I would but I don't, lol!

The black bug was at Roswell a few years back. I don't have anymore info but it looks really modifies. Here is what you can expect with a 2" lift.
