Default filling hood emblem

Can anyone give me some details as to how to fill the depression left by removing the front vw emblem. Not sure if anyone has made a diy, but I believe the intitial prep, filling, and sanding can be done before having the hood resprayed. I also plan on having the Bernt wiper cowl molded, and a custom intake molded.

I'd do it right and get a piece welded into the hood, but I mean, If you want to bondo it, then that can be done too.

Just keep in mind that the paintjob is only as good as the prep work under it, and many bodyshops won't spray over someone else's prepping. If they do agree to it, they normally won't warranty the work.

I've looked into it too, so just letting you know what I've found out

Good luck!

definately have a new piece welded in. It takes time as the sheet metal is very thin and needs a slow process to weld. But you will definately be thankful. The less bondo, the less chance of cracking. All you need is to spend good money to get your hood painted and have the bondo underneath crack a couple months later.

Just to chime in again, everything I have ever done half-ass has come back to haunt me.

Do it right the first time, one time.

Thanks for chiming in! I was planning on taking it to a local body/paint shop that has done great work for me in the past, but I figured it might be worth inquiring about any diy prep work. Funny you chimed in buggasm because you're hood is what has inspired my hood plans... scoop, molded cowl, and shaved emblem. Would it be possible to send, turbobug17@hotmail.com, some pictures of your scoop both in and outside and any pictures of the process? I appreciate the help.

I did mine the half assed way, its holding fine. But since he's going to be hacking into the hood and welding will certainly be a part of getting it done I guess a little more wont hurt, Unless the person welding on it doesnt know what he's doing because then they'll be buying a new hood. sheetmetal doesnt repond well to welding, serious warpage usually results.

my hood was actually welded over a period of 3 days at different times just to make sure no warping would occur.

Absolutely awesome info, I can't wait to get this project started. Sorry to hassel you, but can you offer up some more info as to how the scoop was made? It appears as though you cut the original opening and then welded in the channel or what material is that? Thanks again and if more pics are feasible they are greatly appreciated!

you are correct, instead of just bending the hood material into shape, we actually cut out the shape and then formed the new material to just fall into the opening. This allowed us to not disturb the sheet metal from the hood while the new scoop was being formed. Once the shape of the scoop was done, it was slowly tacked and welded into place as to not warp the hood. The 3M filler is there to clean up the welds.
