Default Bud vase lighting

So I decided to take the plunge and do it.

It wasn't that bad really, the hardest thing was getting the wire over to the dimmer switch.

I will post some pics later.

So it got dark enough to shoot a pic.

The effect is good, I thought it would be brighter with the two LEDs. I epoxied the bulbs in and backed everything with aluminum foil. No light is coming out where it shouldn't, so I guess that was a good Idea.

Something else you may want to do, if not already, is to block light escaping from around the bud vase holder. Use a piece of black foam from scrap packaging material cut to shape to fit inside the housing. Also try using bright aluminum foil to direct more light onto the at bottom of vase. The A/C guys use an adhesive backed aluminum tape that will stay in place.

Everything wound up really good. i didn't have the adhesive backed foil as mentioned above. So I pushed the alum foil into the epoxy after a couple minutes. I checked it today after work, and no probs.

As for the other stuff I am slowly working on the paint of the grab bar ends, and the speedo surrond. When I get that accomplished I will for sure post the peeks.

Bugsgogo.com has the bud vase holder already wired for a lighted bud base. Come in several colors too.

VERY NICE.

To everyone that wants to do this mod, there should be a "how to" in the "how to" section of the forums. I hope that helps.

Here is another way to light your bud vase:

http://www.newbeetle.org/forums/showthread.php?t=12432

This method requires no wire connecting technique!

I got Green LED lights from AutoZone and used one in the bottom of the vase. Very easy to do and looks awesome

Hard-wiring is great but I'm scared so I found nifty LEDs that use your 12v accessory plug-in and have an on/off switch.

Good enough for me!
