Default 2006 NB chrome heater vent retro-fit?

I was on the official VW website looking at 2006 new beetle convertibles to look at all the overall styling changes (don't really care for the redesign to tell the truth) but noticed that they've added chrome to the heater vents in the dash.

I wonder if anyone has tried to retro-fit the new design to an older NB? I may go to my local dealer's parts department and see what they cost to order and if they'll fit.

To me, it seems like a better solution than supergluing a piece of aluminum trim to the dash, or grinding it out with a dremel to fit a TT vent in there crooked.

rumor has it they will fit as will a number of other items in the 06 model. No idea if anyone's done it yet though.

I don't have pictures, but if you go to VW.com and click on 'vehicles,' select 'new beetle' and look at the gallery of pictures for the car's interior, you will see that the 4 heater vents on the dash have chrome surrounding them. The center console is much improved as well. I don't know if it will work with my handbrake, though.

I'm going to the dealer on Thursday to have my convertible top adjusted and will enquire about it then. I'm sure they'll think I'm nuts but I don't care!

I saw an 06 in a parking lot and the rings look good. One question though, do the 06 models still have the hazard button in the middle of the vents?

I've been wondering the same thing...since the TT refit is out of the question thanks to my overuse of a dremmel, I'd like to go that route....i don't see why they wouldnt fit

I saw an older NB at the Bug Out with the chrome around the vents and it looks like its the same as from the '06 models. It looked really nice and I would definately want to do that on my car!

I finally asked the service manager at my local dealer about fitting the new chromed vents and she said they're bigger and won't fit. But she could be full of it... they can't fix my convertible top rattle either.
